Funny cigarettes Tim??? Well, you do Live in Belgium..... when in Rome....
As I say, I'm not against Ps-ing stuff I just choose not to, because I feel it then becomes 'image making' rather than Photography, and yes, dodging/burning/overlaying etc has been going on since Nicephore-niepce on his balcony, BUT.... I am more 'The Moment' kind of person, more Bresson, but with less 'decisiveness' maybe, lol. I take my hat off to those who produce fine images using Ps, I even have some in my collection I bought, I just choose not to do it.... perhaps one day, but not yet.... not yet.... |

I love the City in the image, clear, sharp, interesting and with some symmetry.... but... and I am sorry Tuhin, I hate the clouds and sky, looking at them physically hurts my eyes, I feel like I am constantly struggling to achieve focus, but of course I cannot, but my eye muscles do not know that this is the case and so it hurts as they try harder and harder to pull focus and it is VERY bright.... I like the water though, smooth, offset against the sharp cityScape, and if I scroll down a bit to crop out the sky I can look at this with great pleasure. |

cheers Sherry, I am not about removing things from images that a crop cannot do, ie take out trees, put in skyscraper etc etc, and to remove the high voltage cables would lose something I feel, the scene is of suburbian Leeds, outlooking onto countryside, in snow and very very cold, i do not use Ps save for canvas and image sizing for print and have deliberately not learned how to use it for fear I become an 'image maker' rather than a photographer, I am a bit cartier-bresson I suppose, or Ansel Adams, they did not add or remove only dodged and burned etc, don't misunderstand I am not against Ps-ing an image to make a beautiful picture, but it becomes no longer a photograph, in my mind, once you start taking out that which was there at the moment of making the photo. artistic preferences... subjectiveness, objectiveness, etc etc,...... |

Thanks for the feedback Ian, I did look at a grass crop too but I prefer the panoramic of more foreground, in my latest works though I am going for 'big sky' and I will post one of them in May for critique, I think in this particular image the bigger sky/smaller foreground dwarfs the trees a tad and I wanted the trees to be bigger in the finished image, the bbbbrrrrblue tint is as you know, deliberate and slightly tongue in cheek. photography IS subjective and preferential in that we all have our preferences as to what is or is not worth keeping in or taking out/cropping etc, and I am enjoying the discourse here immensely. thank you. |

I love this Ian, the detail you have picked out is very nice, though I would like the crashing water to be either more detailed or smooth.... its sort of in the middle atm... but it does not detract from the image at all, it is just my personal taste. I am a huge fan of 'Big Sky' and your clouds are beautiful, I like hoe they seem to follow the curve of the cliff. The colours are very nice too, and although it is recent it reminds me of autumn..... nice job fella. |
