65 Jun 19 Reply Thanks Janos. I agree with you about the map though, to me, the compass by itself didn't have much visual "zing." I'll keeping thinking on appropriate backgrounds. Jun 17th
65 Jun 19 Reply Thanks Charlie. Honestly, after taking multiple exposure with different f stops and different compass positions, the amount of blur and the direction of the needle in this image were what looked best to my eye...but I like your thoughts! Jun 14th
65 Jun 19 Reply Thanks, I see what you mean Angela. Point well taken re the plane of focus. I'll watch out for that in the future. With regard to depth of field, I took several exposures from the highest to lowest f stops and f/5 looked the most pleasing to my eye. I was going for detail on the compass face with fewer peripheral distractions? Jun 13th
65 Jun 19 Comment This photo is plenty macro for me Janos. I like how you've arranged the screws and grommets (rivets?). How long did that take? Also like your decision to photograph only the lower portion of the longest screws. I've seen other, similar photos in the past that just looked like a collection of screws. Your photo reminds me of the skyline of Manhattan reflecting off the Hudson, or is it Oz? Jun 11th
65 Jun 19 Comment Wow, that's amazing you were able to capture so much detail of a bee on the move, Angela. Even the reflection in her eye is sharp. I think I prefer the wings to be blurred, implying motion. In fact, I'd be tempted to slow down the shutter speed a little. I like to visit airshows and have been criticized for using such a high shutter speed to photograph propeller planes that the propellor is "frozen". I guess, to some, it looks like the plane is hanging in the air rather than flying. Jun 11th
65 Jun 19 Comment Fascinating subject Lynn. I like the strong lines, the sharp detail, and your narrow vertical format. The strange shapes (reflections?)in the glass filament support are also pretty interesting. Personally, I might center the subject in this instance. I'd also eliminate the "halo" effect (an artifact?) that runs along the filement wires. Jun 10th
65 Jun 19 Comment Hey Charlie, your succulent looks almost other-worldly. Very cool. I love the colors, the detail, and your composition. I might be inclined to try brightening the blossoms just a smidge to make them pop a bit more. I'd also consider softening the texture you've applied to the background. My eye is pulled to those swirls and bumps. Jun 10th
