Melanie, I had fun, but will return to more "normal" stuff next month, but with more insight on the use of color. |

Thanks Emil for accepting the colors, and more so, the goofing around I did to learn more about using color in IR |

Emil. how you brought life to this image by increasing the highlights in the foliage and other foreground subjects is masterful. The sky in the original is flat and dull, again, you breathed life into it by increasing contrast. I agree with Melanie, this image looks like a jewel. |

Palli, the contrast of the water and grass is very pleasing. Like the others, you get high marks for skillfully removing the buildings. My eye wants a little more sky. Not sure why. |

Arik, yes, as others have said, using the tree to frame in the image is masterful. But what I appreciate most is how you caught the couple in interaction. They are looking at each other and she is offering an outstretched hand to him. Who needs a course in street photography when you have your instincts. |

Melanie, I was in this area about 4 years ago before I took an interest in IR. I wanted to take such a photograph, but was too shy and clumsy. So, I applaud your social skills to gain the trust of people and share their story so eloquently. This image has impact. It reminds me of the work of Ellen Mark, and even more so, Dorothea Lange |

Arik, the blue cast to the trees left of center was, honestly, not fully intended, but I went with it. |

Jack, amazing work with just iPhone tech handy. The clouds perfectly frame around the huts and the flat boat adds artistic interest. I like what Henry did. Glad you could be in such a place to take this splendid image. |

Gary, there are a lot of shots we pass up because they are too available and too familiar. Glad you did not pass up this shot. The effect rendered by the Pinhole filter is interesting, e.g., the added vignette and increased grain. It works! I also appreciatate that you removed the car to the front and behind the truck. |

Henry, perfect subject for IR. Nicely composed. Thoughtful skillful post processing. While the sky might benefit from more contrast, I agree with the others that the field and barn is OK as is. Got to get myself to Palouse some day. |

Gary, I alerted Melanie to the absence of the "About" piece. She didn't include it although I sent it to her. She's busy; certainly an oversight. In it you'll see my confession that I too don't like the strange colors, but like sin, had to try it once. |

Brian, this image takes you to the Bellot Straight. It gracefully captures that late evening light. I like how you incorporated the bow waves in the composition. My only comments concern the slight overexposure of the setting sun and possibly removing the ice chunks on the far right side of this image. Splendid work. |

Mark, yes, like you, I considered keeping the red jacket. I will make a version with it. Thank you for the kind comments. |

Sanat, interesting image! Cropping to emphasize the hut was smart. You might change the horizontal plain too, but this will may alter a perspective you want? I would suggest selecting the hut to raise the shadows allowing the viewer to see it more clearly. While the sky is a rich deep blue, it is also uniform and not as interesting as a sky with clouds. I urge you to consider replacing the sky. |

Quang Phan, indeed the scene you captured is peaceful. The viewer can almost feel the breeze and smell the sea. My eye wants to do several different crops to create a set of images. There could be, for example, an image that focuses only on the colorful houses at the shoreline, or another more abstract image that singles out the geometric pattern rendered by the blue roofed condos. In terms of composition, the sailboarder adds a lot but also leads the viewer's eye away from the interesting sights on the shoreline. |

Mark, this photograph captures the cold blue water, lush green trees and grandeur of the coast of Maine. There is a lot for the eye to scan in this broad landscape image, which is its strength and weakness. There are multiple subjects. Perhaps cropping to constrain the image to the bay with the boats might be one way to redefine the subject of this drone-like shot? |
