Emil, such a fun image, and rendered so nicely. IR can extract beauty even from an outhouse. I liked the way you cropped the sky out to emphasize the outhouse, especially its door. In post processing you sharpened the leaves of the foliage, which framed in the subject of this photograph. So, what's being read today? |

Arik, this is a splendid IR photo. I like it as is, with such good use of leading lines and using the tree in foreground to frame in the image. I agree with you about the luminosity of mid-day light (which acts like Dracula for normal cameras). Nicely done, such a pleasure to behold. |

Melanie, interesting story. I just returned from some hiking at Shenandoah National Park and saw several advertisements for Luray Cavern. Indeed, a cavern is a challenging place for IR. Who knows what the composition of light is inside and whether a high ISO will produce more noise than usual. I like the shapes and patterns of stalagmites and stalactites you captured. You handled the tricky lighting well. Good thing your number 1 camera took a holiday? |

Gary, this image is so appealing. You captured an expression on the model's face that reminds me of scenes from classic films like Casablanca. I truly admire your courage to try new things. I very much like the modifications you made following Palli's suggestions. Discerning the left hand of the model adds a touch of mystery to this mood setting image. |

Quang Phan, with this image, the viewer at once experiences a familiar and unfamiliar place. It captures well the integration of western and eastern cultures in Hong Kong. You were astute to merge the sunset image with the other one. The sunset sky adds so much to this photograph. Even with a slow shutter speed you captured the details of the people in the lower part of the frame, which then adds a human narrative to the story. |

Gary, you see beauty in city environments that oblivious citizens walk by every day. Reflections are provocative, but you added the train to animate image and conjure a story. The mixture of colors and the contrasting directions of architectural lines are a feast for the eyes. |

Trey, what a beautiful image. I like the way the hazy barren trees contrast with the vibrant yellow of the Tamaracks. You did a lot of work in post processing to bring out this latent beauty. You dialed in just the right level of painting effect that adds much to the image. The image is asymmetric, it has a strong left side. Some viewers may not appreciate this tension. |

Gary, I agree that this image is problematic. Apart from the issues of making the sky replacement more natural looking and the matter of having a focal interest area, there is an authorship issue. Without the stock sky replacement available in PS 2021, this image is awful. The functional subject of the image is the sky. So, I ask our fellow discussants to consider questions about authorship and creativity. If it was a sky I photographed, that's OK; but, what if a stock image is used? |
