66 Jan 21 Comment You have a connection, a nearly spiritual relationship, with trees. This image reveals that connectedness. I like the angle of this image and the way you used the sky to silhouette the trees. I'd like to see a bit more of this by bringing out the background highlights, which, by the way, the original image does nicely. Jan 10th
66 Jan 21 Reply Thanks Melanie, that helps. Jan 10th
66 Jan 21 Comment Happy New Year Jack. I have tried to photograph ferns too. I agree, they are not as easy a they look. Getting the light right to handle shadows is an art and if you use a slow shutter speed and a small aperture to increase depth of field to get them in focus, even gentle winds can blur them. I like the soft, ephemeral tone of this image. My eye wants the forward fern a little sharper, but that's it. Jan 10th
66 Jan 21 Reply Sometimes Topaz AI sharpen or the sharpen filter in PS can create distortions. The clarity slider in PS can do the same when set too high. I usually like more detail, but with this composition that is so dominated by the s-curve, softer foliage with less highlights would be more pleasant. Thanks for the suggestion Gary. Jan 6th
66 Jan 21 Reply Yes Jack, once you pointed out the difference in foliage between the processed and original image, I could not agree more. I will make those changes. Thank you. Jan 6th
66 Jan 21 Comment Gary if you were aspiring to achieve a spooky, eerie image, you succeeded. So interesting! And I think such an image is best done in IR. Your post-processing work is top notch. To geld the lily, however, I agree with Jack about the intensity of the halo. Just a slight adjustment will keep things ghostly without too much luminosity. Jan 6th
66 Jan 21 Comment Palli, looks like you and I drank the same tea the day were took our photos. Of course, I like the strong curve of the street. Curvy paths, trails, roads and streets can be seen in a lot of my photos. I like the way they pull an image together and lead the viewer where you want them to go. Great photo! Jan 6th
66 Jan 21 Comment Melanie, you have entered that limbo land between IR and conventional photography. I like it. I go there too, but it does raise questions about what IR was and is. I like the unusual colors available in your IR image. My comment concerns using the sky replacement tool in PS. Why not load some custom IR skies to use with images that need a more interesting sky? I plan to do this loading raw IR unconverted images of skies in PS 2021. Thanks again for expanding the boundaries of creativity. Jan 6th

88 Jan 21 Reply Trey, please do be the drama queen. I sincerely appreciate your comments on sharing the emotions and memories associated with an image. Don McCullin, the famous WW2 English photographer, is quoted of saying "if you have no feeling when you take a photograph, don't expect your viewer to have any." Another photographer said that "my heart and my eye is my camera." This is a high criterion to meet before hitting the shutter button, but it is one we should be always mindful of, especially if we wish to become more generative as we grow old. Jan 22nd
88 Jan 21 Comment Gary, I liked the way you cropped out the tourists putting much more emphasis on the falls and rainbow. Enriching the colors made it more interesting too. Sometimes waterfalls can create microclimates with unexpected effects, e.g., localized winds. The foliage in front of and to the right of the falls is slightly blurred. If you have other photos taken at faster shutter speeds, I wonder if you can steal the foliage from these photos and paste/layer them into this one? Jan 10th
88 Jan 21 Comment Sanat, I like what you did to saturate the colors and bring out those beautiful clouds. The original shows some lens distortions (darken corners) which you nicely corrected. Were you thinking of 3 equal subjects (water, land, sky) when you captured this image? If so, I'd suggest cropping some of the water to give more emphasis to the land and sky. Jan 10th
88 Jan 21 Comment About eight years ago I rode my bicycle through this area seeing these quaint images, regretting not have a camera with me. You have captured such a lovely scene. I like the composition, what you did to balance the colors and replace the sky. The road or street with the parked cars is, for my eye, a distraction. They can be easily deleted if you agree. Jan 10th
88 Jan 21 Comment This image creates a story about a city living between the sky and the sea. The soft tone and muted colors invite the viewer to see the city as a beautiful natural object. I agree with Gary about the ratio of sea to sky, and might also suggest lowing the highlights on the left side of the image. Jan 10th
88 Jan 21 Comment Happy New Year Trey. I have found it is a challenge to use a slow shutter speed with trees. The slightest wind moves them creating an unwanted blur. However, you found the sweet spot. I like how you introduced yellow as a compositional element. Inter-season images are intriguing and this one is certainly an example. Jan 10th
88 Jan 21 Comment Gary, there are very few photographers who could take the 2 originals you provided and render the highly creative image you composed. It must have taken a lot of time and concentration to color the rows in the field to suggest the stripes of a flag. While it was effective to create the sky as you did, I wonder if the sky replacement tool in PS 2021 could have been used for this purpose too. I also wonder if a monochrome (B&W) version of the final composition might better connect the field with the sky. On the other hand, if you made the red rows more red and the white more white would that tighten the composition without it appearing too artificial? Jan 10th
88 Jan 21 Comment I am learning a lot from you. At the top of the list is my propensity to have to too much contrast at the expense of details in the shadows. I like your adjustment. I am looking forward to another year, a far better year, learning from you. Jan 6th
