Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
66 Aug 20 Comment You claim you were lucky to see this shot, then scramble to capture it; however, you made your own luck. It is a splendid image. The clouds are lovely and sailors coming in towards the viewer makes the image kinetic. I like it cropped as is; however, that last sailor is facing away. Too bad you didn't have a dog whistle in your camera bag. Aug 12th
66 Aug 20 Comment Jack, I really like the simplicity of this image, and more so, your creative insight to see it and capture it. There is not much you can do about it, but the shovel seems too much like a plastic toy to me. My eye wants something old, worn, and rusty. Aug 12th
66 Aug 20 Comment I share your fascination and appreciation of old trees. Some seem to be in their bare old phase longer than when they were younger. It is provocative and fun to use plugins. They not only suggest possibilities, but also help realize a vision one has. I like your use of them in this image accept for the border; in this case I agree with comments made by Melanie and Jack. 66 Aug 20 Comment Again Melanie, you stretch the envelope for us. I find myself taking photos the IR camera is biased towards. This is a fresh image of people and part of a human story too. Steve McCurry would like it. Aug 11th
66 Aug 20 Comment Everything is in the eye of the beholder, but my eye likes this revision much more. It's less muddy. Aug 11th
66 Aug 20 Reply Again Gary, your comments are making me a better photographer. I have already changed the large-file original in accord with your suggestions. It looks better.
Thank you.

66 Aug 20 Comment Like Palli, I see value in both images. Yes the original, while crisp and nearly 3D, it lacks the somber tone you desire. However, my preference and eye is for an image that combines the best of both. Like the others who have commented, the final image seems a bit too dark. And I am not 100% supportive of the blurring effect. Is there a way to blur some of the image while keeping the details and depth of field in the rest? Aug 3rd
66 Aug 20 Comment Welcome John. This is a great group. Since joining it only a few months ago, I have learned a lot from these veteran photographers and artists.

My first attempts at IR were as frustrating as they were exciting. I discovered that some leaves and foliage respond differently than anticipated. Note in your image that some foliage glows while others does not (e.g., the foliage adjacent to the pavilion compared to the trees on the right side of the image). You used this effect nicely to highlight the pavilion. My only suggestion is for you to consider moving the pavilion from the center to a position slightly right of center.

88 Aug 20 Reply Good advice Trey. It will be easy to add room to the right side of the image. Your point about the water splash is on the mark. I will darken the backs and pull out some of the yellow and blue too (Gary's advice). Aug 16th
88 Aug 20 Reply Hi Scott, I was misleading with the term "iPhone photographers". A better choice would have been "point & shoot photographers". I did not intend to suggest your image was taken with an iPhone. Sorry if I insulted you; quite to the contrary, I wanted to applaud your work. Aug 14th
88 Aug 20 Reply Lou, feedback like yours is what makes these discussion groups so valuable. What you suggest will improve the image. I'll revise it. Thanks. Aug 12th
88 Aug 20 Reply Gary, I wondered too about the blue in the shadows and the tight right side. The herd was not moving, but there was the potential to move. I will include your suggestions in a revision of this image. Thank you. Aug 12th
88 Aug 20 Comment Trey I share your fascination with paths. I have a huge folder containing images of paths. I really like what you have done with this path, how you changed the lighting to focus on it and to its destination, the unfortunately named lake. This image not only guides the eye of the viewer, but also sends an invitation to walk here and be one with nature. Aug 12th
88 Aug 20 Comment Bryce is my favorite National Park, especially in Spring when snow is still on the ground to contrast with the red, orange and yellow tones of the rock structures. It was clever of you use 2 photographs. The resulting image is better than either of the originals alone. I wonder if more sky was added, would the composition be more balanced? Aug 12th
88 Aug 20 Comment Scott, some iPhone photographers don't realize how difficult it is to take photographs of slot canyons. They are a challenge to get to and hike within them. The light contrast inside them is huge. I like what you did in post-processing to rescue the blues in the sky while dealing effectively with shadows inside the canyon and enhancing the details and rusty color tones. Nice work. Aug 12th
88 Aug 20 Comment This image is magical. The beams of "god light" are beautiful. The setting sun gave you dynamic contrasts in the sky that you astutely captured. This is one time when a tripod would have slowed the creative process. Handheld worked fine. Rajani, I can see why you want to return to this special place. Do it. Aug 12th
88 Aug 20 Comment Gary, you are indeed a master of post-processing. You have some skills I would like to learn. It is quite amazing what you did to create the final image and nudge the viewer. However, in order for the line of baskets to be even more dominate, my eye wants all the concrete, except the sidewalk, deleted and replaced with grass. Another option might be to darken the curbs? Aug 12th
88 Aug 20 Comment Gary, this is one of the best images of the comet I've seen. I like the conversion to black & white and what you did to suppress noise, but without deleting the small stars. There is a tiny patch of noise on the left side just about the horizon that Topaz missed. Using a tree in the foreground gives a needed reference point and sense of scale. Nice work. Aug 12th
