33 Mar 20 Reply Hi, Bob - I tried to reply a few times now, but it's not posting. Maybe it was too long? I'll check back tomorrow to see if it posted. It's cool that you were on the USS Enterprise! Mar 19th
33 Mar 20 Reply Hi, Bob - I tried to post a reply, but it didn't post. It may show up later, but I thought I'd try again... It's really cool that you were on the USS Enterprise in the Sea of Japan! I can totally imagine how cold that must have been. On our whale-watching trip, I was wearing a rainproof, insulated jumpsuit that the expedition company gave us over my sweater and winter jacket and I was still cold. The hot chocolate they gave us barely helped. It was biting cold, but still one of my favorite parts of our Iceland trip - a really great experience!

33 Mar 20 Reply It's awesome that you did that! It really is biting cold there. I wore an insulated rainproof jumpsuit that the expedition company gave us over my sweater and winter jacket and I was still cold. They gave us hot chocolate, but even that barely helped. It was still one of my favorite parts of our Iceland trip, however - a really great experience. Mar 19th
33 Mar 20 Comment Beautiful setting! It reminds me of the setting for something in the Fantasy genre, with a miniature house surrounded by gigantic trees. There's something quite magical about that. In order to have the house be the main focus, however, I think Bob's cropped version works very well. Mar 16th
33 Mar 20 Comment I like how futuristic and sci-fi this looks. The faces are blurry, but I think that adds to the science fiction effect with the people resembling cyborgs. Were you going for a futuristic or science fiction look? Mar 16th
33 Mar 20 Comment Such a heartbreaking situation. Without your description, I couldn't tell the context for what I was looking at, though. You captured the detail of the burnt wood very well. Did you get any photos that give more of a context, e.g. a burnt house? It sounds like you might be able to capture some very moving photos in that town. Mar 16th
33 Mar 20 Reply Thanks, Randy. Great suggestions! It was really difficult photographing that day. The boat was moving so much, I could barely walk across the boat. The whales (or whale; we weren't sure if we were just seeing the same whale over and over again) only surfaced briefly in different spots and we never knew if we'd be able to snap a picture in time. It was freezing cold. And on top of all that, it was cloudy and rainy. I had to keep wiping rain off my camera. I think I must have settled for finding settings that worked with one photo and then mostly kept using those. I actually had no idea I'd captured a picture with a raft of people near the whale until I got home and looked at my photos. :) Mar 16th
33 Mar 20 Reply Oh, I like that edit! It reminds me of old photos of whales, the kind you might find in history books. Mar 16th
33 Mar 20 Reply Thanks so much, Raymond! Mar 16th
33 Mar 20 Reply Thanks so much, Paul! It was a lot of fun, one of my favorite experiences in Iceland, despite the extreme cold. Mar 16th
33 Mar 20 Reply Thanks so much, Elizabeth! That means a lot to me, especially coming from you, as your photography skills are amazing. Mar 16th
33 Mar 20 Reply Thanks for your input. The information you provided was really interesting. I guess I like the original color because it totally captured the feeling I had being there that day. It was cold...very, very cold! Mar 16th
33 Mar 20 Comment I agree with Bob. The colors are great, but I think the original photo's too cluttered. Mar 10th
33 Mar 20 Comment Great photo! I love the bright colors and the reflections in the water. Mar 10th
33 Mar 20 Comment Great picture! Nice balance of geometric shapes and the reflection in the water adds nicely to the scene. Mar 10th
33 Mar 20 Reply Thanks, Bob. I submitted my original image to an S4C competition and am waiting to see how it does there. The ocean the day we went whale watching was the color that showed up in my photo. I increased the saturation, but kept the color true to how it had actually been. Mar 10th
