To you all: Thank you for your comments. I guess to me, it wasn't just about the plant. Perhaps I mistitled the photo. It was about the entire place.

What a pretty sight! It's hard to believe it was taken an hour before sunset in January, since there is so much sun - or is that brightness post-processing? I agree with most of the suggestions: The foreground is so pretty and interesting that I find my eyes exploring it more than the mountain. I love the curve of the creek and the variegation of the plant life, which hardly looks barren. Is the barren part the blackish stuff between the green and the mountain? Maybe a shadow? I agree the trees at the bottom should be cropped out--though I'd hate to loose the creek. |

Great way to capture an amazing moment at an amazing time! I think the variation in the levels of color in the sky is wonderful, and then the variation in the levels of the vegetation below. So you've got something like 14 horizontal layers of color, depending on how you count. And on top of it all, the birds! Yes, the trees and other vegetation in the background are not sharp, but the birds and the foreground grey vegetation are, at least pretty much on the birds, depending on their distance. And your settings are mind-blowing in difficulty. What a difficult and wonderful shot! |

I love the flowers and plants with their different colors, shapes, textures and sizes. Also, very sharp. The building confused me until I read more about it, as did the "clouds" over it. I think this was a very fun effort for your purpose, but I would have preferred just the flowers & plants. The poster reminds me of old time movies where they did that, with the actors in the foreground. But beautiful flowers & plants & focus! |

Beautiful colors, love the lighting, black background, and the fact there is stem! However, I agree absolutely with the others that what you have shown makes us ask: Where's the rest of it? Also, what is at the very bottom? It looks like a green fabric rather than a stem. Anyhow, if you showed the entire flower, you would probably want to cut out some of the stem. |

I definitely saw more than the Ocotillo, too. I liked the way you get the setting by looking through its branches. |

What a gorgeous shot of the bird! I love the delicate, silvery shininess and separation of the plumage. I also really like the vignette. The twig by the bill is a bit distracting, but otherwise, it's like the Audubon Society stuff! |

I didn't do much of anything but crop. My husband passed away recently and this is my first try back. Perhaps I should drop out for a year. |
