Yes, I agree. I just don't always have the energy! But couldn't you have tilted it as I suggested in post-processing? |

This is gorgeous, as usual! I love the soft colors and, of course, the black background. Love the brighter yellow on the right.
I am very hard pressed to offer any suggestion, but if I push it I would say I would look at what it would do to the composition if the branch were moved a tiny bit down and to the left so the branch wasn't quite at such a 90 degree angle and just a bit more on the diagonal with the yellow a bit more near the top. |

What is diffraction, and what does it do to an image? I have looked it up, and once again rued the fact I never studied physics-just calculus and trigonometry (in college). Physics (even in high school) would have been more helpful for leading a non-scientific life, as I have.
Also -- can you explain why shooting with 40 mp and cropping gives a bad image? What about shooting closer up with a higher mp camera and then cropping just a needed amount? Wouldn't that give a clearer image if one used a tripod, polarizer, cable release, etc.? |

Thanks! I have one of those - but mine is more gray than black. I think I'll look for another one!
What then was the arrangement sitting on, if the foam board was 5 feet back? |

I am in awe! I agree with everything Dick and Janet say!
What is the background, by the way! |

I think this is lovely. Pretty flower and love the rain drops. I might have cropped out just the top part to hide the dark red of the bud, and then added a dark vignette around the edges. Alternatively, I'd add an even darker vignette to take away the attention the dark red bud gets. |

How pretty! Could be on a Christmas card! I like what Dick did around the edges, but I would go half-way in between the two photos on the lighting on the snow. Also, I thought the snow in the bird's mouth was really interesting, and your explanation of what was happening made it even more so. |

A striking snake eye! I do think having a greater DOF would have improved the image. As it is, the softness in the front and rear are distracting. But what a lovely eye! |

Both. It was on a black foam board on the kitchen table with light coming in from the window and also artificial overhead. I intended to turn off the light, but I forgot. Thus I had to work hard to down the lights in post processing. |

This is colorful and creative. I absolutely love all the delicate colors in their strips and with their shadows. I can't really comment more on that part because I am clueless as to how you did it - I can only appreciate it must have been a lot of knowledgeable work. The only thing that I find confusing is the face/figure at the top. To me he seems out of place. Maybe a Polynesian dance girl's head? |

I think this is lovely and I like the "stretched" version--especially the fact the flowers look a bit like beautiful floral spiders. I don't know enough about post-processing to even understand the rest of the discussion. |

This is a lovely and tender triptych! I am just shaking my head and saying-- how can she even smell or drink her tea with a mask on? So I agree with Peter's suggestion, tho I don't know anything about competitions. |

Thank you for using and discussing this technique. It's very similar, I think, to the one I used in my photo (tho I didn't know it had a name). I saw the podcast of Charles Needle and then got one of his books to start experimenting. I also followed Judith's example and explanation a few months back. I think the image of the water and the "cliffs" works well, but I didn't see the figures at all until I read Judith's comment and went back and looked for them. They look a bit like broken off tree trunks poking up out of the water rather than people. I think it's great we can all share and learn thru this site! |

Gorgeous! So perfect and beautiful, it's hard to believe it's really a photo, and not something done with software! |

What a lovely, interesting photo! Good for you for seeing the fine art in what might have been a mundane, ordinary scene. I love the golden orange tones, punctuated by the interesting blue tarp. |
