Also - my son is an artist and in a tenure-track position teaching at Pratt Institute. We have had many discussions about freedom of expression in art. I, as a lawyer, think it's a constitutional right. So I support your decision to take a beautiful photo and make it much better than it started out, no matter the subject. As long as it's not pornography or something else (I think the Supreme Court decision said something like "I'll know it when I see it."). |

Wow-what a discussion! Tom, I don't think anyone's choice of photographic subjects should be criticized, unless it something like pornography. I think is is a great photo. I like the angle, and I found all the white dust, or whatever it is, to be interesting. I love the texture you captured on the body and antennae. Now that I know it was dead, I see that maybe the last joint of the right antenna is gone. I also note the lack of brightness in the eyes. But the texture and colors you captured are amazing.
And excuse my stupidity, but what is stacking, if you have time to answer? |

A great, clear photo with terrific background. I wonder about your choice of cropping. It bothers me that only one fern leaf is shown in its entirety. I can understand that this would be good for botanical identification purposes, but for a photo ("art"), I would have considered using just one or two entire fern leaves and showing the "hairy" stem, maybe at some kind of aesthetically pleasing angle. |

I love the dots of white on the antennae and nose (?) of the butterfly. It does look a little soft around the body and rear. But I think it's a fabulous picture, and a true gift to you and us that the butterfly sat there long enough for you to take the photo! |

Beautifully sharp! I agree that Tom's touch (as always) was great! |

Oh how I envy how crystal clear this is. I do, however, agree that maybe clicking off the dead leaf with manicure scissors before the photo would have been a good idea.
Thanks for increasing my photo vocabulary with bokeh! |

Why don't you send me a link with everything you know about photography software and I'll sign in with my thumb and upload it to my brain!!!!!!!!!
Great job! |

By the way -- I went through all my photos and the front flower was in focus, but the one to the right wasn't. So I guess I missed the big point for looking for the minor one. |

Ditto on my reply to Stuart! I've got a tripod, and I think my right arm (2 breaks in my shoulder) is well enough to deal with carrying it around and setting it up.
Thanks so much! |

Well, I agree with the above comments. My add to them: Maybe change the title? Something like "Letting go," or "Reaching for heaven"? |

I think this is just gorgeous! Beautiful colors & great clarity. I must confess I don't understand stacking. Maybe if one of you has time and inclination you could head me at least to an understanding! |

Oh, wow - I love what you did with a good photo to start and then made it great -- a work of art! Fantastic processing! |

A beautiful photo. Very eerie. Science fictional. Metaphysical. Makes me think of the end of the world coming! |

What a great photo. And congrats on your photo being used up front--the arrested for peace one. Great expression on her face and great capture on your part.
Did you use a telephoto lens? Or were you that close?
I have been to Chili and loved how you can be driving from the ocean for a brief while then be in vineyards and from there see the Andes.
You mention an original, which I would love to see if you'd post it. |
