Thanks, all, for this wonderful lesson. I certainly see why one would remove the white spot and brighten the flower slightly to reveal more detail. But, Janet, why crop the bottom of the flower? It's a general question I have. Why crop any part of a flower? |

I still think the original was the best-but I'm a very rank amateur. I think the additional space up left and blur gives context. I also like the compositional structure better. What a fantastic shot! |

What an interesting insect! I just bought the lens you used here and I hope I can get to do something this wonderful some day! I love the clarity here, and the wonderful detail of the face, mouth, and little "hairs" on the head and back. I also love the delicacy of the wings and the ability to see through to the tail. Lighting here was critical-amazing it was natural. I love the blur of the background and the composition rendered with the angle of the stem the bug is on together with its tail. Did you crop and rotate the photo? Was it taken outside? |

Well, we're all different, I guess. I prefer the first, without the flip -- the eye moving from left to right. I think the textures are just divine -- the poof of the thick grey feather, contrasted with the fine, long needle-like darker grey. And then the interesting black on blue stripes on top of the white-- there with tighter feathers. |

This is absolutely gorgeous! The stick itself, and the photo & I love the angle you chose for the head! |

There's more in the original to the left, but in the background to the left there's some construction work. I cut it out. I hope to learn photoshop soon and then maybe I could cut something like that out. Also, there's something - a stroller maybe - in the far back right to this, but I felt I couldn't crop it out. I'm just a beginner, and trying to learn-step by step. |

Wow - what an effort! I love the composition with its two angled elements and all their individual dark lines and mysterious, kind of wavy lighted elements. I also love the near monochrome of the lighted areas.
Was that in the original or achieved in editing? |
