This is a nice portrait of this beautiful bird. There is good detail in the feathers and the lighting is nice, though I would have liked to have seen a bit more light on his head. |

Yes, I think I'll try that crop. I agree that the brightness distracts. That's what I like about this group. YOu work on an image till sometimes you don't see these things the way fresh eyes do. |

Thank you for that crop suggestion, Kerry. When I was cropping it,I wondered about that. |

I love this image and the composition and the fact that he is looking right at the camera lens. On my monitor, he's just a little soft, lacking some feather detail. I noticed that your lens was at 350mm but your shutter speed was 1/200. A rule of thumb that I use it to never reduce my shutter speed to less than the focal length the lens. So for this image at 350mm, use shutter speed of 1/400. It also depends on the stability of what is holding the lens. Lucky you to have this guy come to your yard for a visit. |

There's something about this image with the mixed flock that made me smile. I think it's in an interesting image. You didn't mention what your shutter speed is. On my monitor, none of the birds are sharp which is important given that they are the subject. Birds are difficult. Another thing that helps with flying birds is to set your autofocus to continuous tracking or whatever it is on the Nikon. It looks like a lovely place. |

Well, this is a glimpse of springtime in the middle of January. You asked about the stick. Personally, I think that it adds to the story. It's not prominent enough for the image to be about the stick, but I don't think it detracts and I think it's a nice, "supporting element". I don't know if this is an artifact of the HDR or not, but your final image doesn't seem to be as sharp as the originals. |
