Perhaps a curves layer to brighten up the bird and give it more contrast. Also, a flash with a better beamer would easily reach 20-30 ft. |

You are welcome, Kerry. The tree is definitely the hero with Walter's placement even though the eye moves thru the image. I want to say again, I just love the fall colors. |

Thank you for your comments Walter and Kerry. I'll work on the background today and see what I come up with. I agree about the marks (footprints of the cranes) aren't very attractive. |

Hi Walter, I like what you did with the background. It's subtle but I think the leaves take less attention from the flower. They are still there for context but I quite like their subtly. Nice job. |

I think this is a fun composition with the position of the bird. To my taste, the bokeh is quite nice as is the backlight on the bird. Given that the bird is the subject, I would have liked a little more light bounced back onto the bird, especilly in the area of the eye. |

I think this is a good attempt with photographing and stopping the action of the hummer. That's not an easy task in my experience. That said, I'd like to see more of the hummer. Because the flower is much brighter than the hummer, my eye goes right to the flower and I'm not able to see the detail and wonderful colors of the hummer. I'm wondering if you considered some fill flash or bouncing some of that light that shining on the flower back onto the hummer with a reflector? I also agree with Walter about removing the dried plants. |

I love the gorgeous light and gold tones in this image. I found it surprising, as I'm photographing spring here! I love the glow of the backlight. In looking at your original, I actually like the uncropped composition with the tree more to the right. I really light Walter's crop above. I like the balance between the tree and the undulating hills in Walter's crop. |

What a lovely camellia. I love the even lighting that allows all of the fine dteails of the flower to come through. White flowers can be difficult to photograph and I enjoy the subtle pink and yellow color that comes through. I think that your crop was effective in empasizing the central flower. The focus and DoF was sufficient to keep the center focused. I'm wondering how it would look if more of the background were blurred? |

I hadn't thought about making the background whiter but that's an intereting idea. I actually had tried to bring some texture out in the snow to give the cranes more context but I agree with you going the other way could be interesting. |

Thank you. I stood in the snow a long time waiting for that shot! |
