I like Walter's crop. I think an "implied butt" is better than the real thing. Kidding aside, the tighter crop further emphasizes the action and reduces the distraction. |

Thank you both for your comments about the cropping. I did crop the image similar to Walter's suggestion. I agree it makes it stronger. |

Thank you for the suggestion. I had already cropped it from the other side and debated about further cropping it. I like what you tried. |

Nice portrait of a Harris's Hawk. It shows the markings and the face nicely. I'm not sure what your DoF was but it adequately kept the bird in focus while nicely blurring the background. Technically this image works to document the bird and is similar to what you see in the bird book. I would have experimented with bringing out more detail in the bird such as is possible with experimenting with the adjusting highlights, shadows, clarity, contrast, etc. |

I like you angle of view which really emphasizes the dogs face. I think you took a risk in having the rear of the cow being so prominent yet not the subject. In this image that work and I think having the rear of the cow slightly out of focus helps it not to compete with the dog. Good choice of DoF. I also like the dust flying which implies the motion of both animals. Good job getting the dog sharp and nice cropping. Overall a very interesting image. |

I think this image has potential but perhaps you should have watched/waited until their heads were in the light. I'm assuming the subject is the preening but the heads are all in shadow so my eye goes to their lighter, brighter backs and chests. That said, given that this was hand held, there seems to be some feather detail. I also looks like you blurred the background in post which decreased the distraction from the trees. |

I love the interaction between these birds. You can just imagine what the parent is communicating to the chicks. I like the emphasis on the family group that the crop provides although I think it's a bit close to the parent's tail feathers on the right side. The light is good although on my monitor, the white feathers on all three birds are too hot. I am not bothered by the chick's rear being in the foreground as there is so much interest in the heads of the 3 birds, my eye is drawn there first. All in all a good capture and a nice reward for your early am walk. |
