I really like the patterns in the water that help camouflage the alligator. I think monochrome is a good choice.
To improve the photo I think it would be helpful if more focus was on the subject, but somehow you have to do that without the loss of the great patterns. I would suggest darkening the edges of the photo more to bring focus to the alligator. You might also try lightening him up a little. Another thing I have tried on some monochrome photos is using Silver Effects Pro and one the of presets in the application. I hope that helps!

I like the interesting perspective of this photo. I like how the background is blurred, but helps tell the story. This is not a typical view that we usually see of drones and I like the approach. |

Converting this image to monochrome gives the flowers a unique glow that adds interest. I like the crop the helps narrow the focus to the flower tops. |
