I appreciate your suggestion, but the desat of the background marigold doesn't work for me. But that's ok. This is how we learn!

I like the concept of this image but I feel like the background is crowding your subject. Purhaps blurring the background would help with this. I agree with Judy about trying to lighten/ even out the lighting on his face. I've attended Civil War reenactments in the past and always find the participants to be great and willing subjects. |

When I first opened this image, I went "whoa!" So for me, it has great impact. Because of the position of the bee and the angle we are viewing him from, it makes sense to me that the wings and body are the sharpest. Would it be better if his head and antenna were also sharp? Probably, but not enough to bother me. |

Good position of the flower in the frame, love the slight curve of the stem, excellent lighting with simple blurred background. Sharp where it needs to be sharp. What more can I say? Very nice!

I am not a bird photographer, but we have a lot in our local club. They would say the same....action needed. You have done well with that in this case. I do find the lighting to be flat and wonder if you might do something with color/saturation/luminence? Also, have you considered cropping off the right only to make this a vertical shot? Just a thought.

The fact he has two different colored eyes, increases the interest factor for this image... and they are nice and sharp. I see that he has a chain collar and that's ok, but I would remove the large link next to his cheek (leave the rest). I agree about removing the ball in this instance. Love the fact it appears he is looking right at the viewer.

Beautiful capture of the mother, chick and nest. Because she is right up against the berry shrub, it is understandable that it, too, is in focus. I agree with the others that the background is distracting. So what are your options? Perhaps crop 50% off the left side, eliminating the bright red berries. Or, mask the birds and nest and slightly blur/desaturate the bright green bushes. I would not completely replace the background because it tells the story, plus I like the blurred distant background. |

Yes! I guess I was thinking of fish?! It is indeed a Yellowtail. Thank you for your comments. The legs are probably sharper in the original because I did not mask it as well as I should have. I agree the flowers are blurred, but I actually wanted them to be and hoped that the chalk effect would blur them more. I'm hoping to enter this in our local Pierce County Fair, so would appreciate additional helpful comments such as yours.
