Robert I prefer this version to your first. In answer to your question about the roofline, I would say, no. I don't think you need it. In fact, I prefer the second version without the roof line. The subject is the lighted walkway. |

It's always nice to get birds and wildlife in natural poses as you have done here. I agree with Judy that it needs to be cropped in. I would take even more from the top and remove the 3 separate pine needles that are above and to the left of the heron's head. I would also remove or darken the light branch (lichen?) above the bird to simplify the background. |

Thank you all for your suggestions. You've taken an admittedly mediocre (at best) image and shown how to turn it into a much better image. I like both Bob and Judy's versions. It shows there is not just one way to process an image. |

The fog really makes this image interesting in my opinion. I agree, the vignetting is too much for this image. I wonder if you cropped most of the sky out. I might like that better.

Very nice image. I agree about the people in this image, but like the idea of someone in the photo. Maybe you could go back and bring a family member or friend along. Try placing them in different parts of the image. I especially like the fact you included the white line in the foreground. Not sure if it borders a pathway or?? It is not exactly parallel to the columned walkway, but close enough. I think it adds much to the composition. |

Nice sharp image. Great contrast. Love the lines. It might be a little busy, so I'm wondering if you cropped out the right side to leave a narrow vertical image with the three guide wires and the little cloud, framed by the concrete structure, leaving out the rest of the building? Simplifies the subject. Just an idea. |

Your composition is very nice, as is the position of the insect on the flower. In addition to what Robert mentions above, there is the issue of the slightest breeze interfering with your shot. The insect is not as sharp as it needs to be, possibly because of that. It would be great to see more attempts at this type of photography. Keep at it!

I enjoy this type of image. I think you have done well with it although I do like Robert's with the added contrast. I think the inclusion of the metal post is an important part of this story as well as the second shadow in the background. We could possibly write a short story about who this is, why she is there, etc.

You and Robert are both correct. Much better without the windmill. I think I was trying to give it some context, but that didn't really work. I like the way you made it pop!
