An interesting project. Good that you can go back again.

This has in fact been a great discussion. Thank you, Robert, for your willingness to experiment and show us the results. Of all the variations, I do like the final one the best.

Because your camera has a crop sensor you had a pretty good reach with your 300! I love his position on the board and with the wave, he's obviously in the moment and ready to make whatever adjustments are necessary. Would you consider cropping as Robert suggests? I believe it would work better. |

Beautiful colors and shapes! I like the curved dark "pathway" that comes from the left to center top. Is this an ocean horizon? I wish there was some shape in the foreground but as it is, it is still spectacular.

Judy, I enjoy this kind of image. You did a great job of capturing the details with your focus stacking. I am not certain if it is as a consequence of the focus stacking or something else, but many of the pencils appear over sharpened. They have a fringe around the edge. See the brown pencil, top center. I know there are ways to reduce that. Maybe someone in the group knows how?

I looked at this image and went "wow"! I showed it to my husband and he had a similar response. The large moon does not disturb me at all. You didn't say if this is a composite, but if it is it is very well done. The color tones are perfect in my opinion. One small suggestion, I would clone out the building just below the moon. Wonderful!

I like the bw treatment for this. I do agree that it is too busy. To solve this, you might try cropping the top to just above the topmost step. It puts more attention to the steps and the lantern. (I actually didn't notice the lantern until you mentioned it). If you were to go back, or find a similar scene, you might try putting your camera closer to the ground for a different angle. That might put more emphasis on the leaves on the stones. |

Jon, I like your composition and treatment of this very much. I agree with Robert, it would be helpful if you could straighten the silos. I would add a little bit more canvas above the silos as well. Easy to do in PS. |

Thank you for the suggestions. I wasn't entirely happy with the concentric circles, was just trying something different. I will try using the brush instead as you suggested. I did try it in bw, but prefer the color version myself. |
