Philip,
Visiting from group 30. Wonderful use of fisheye. I actually think the moon/ starburst is distracting in this situation and would prefer it removed. But over all a fascinating image.

Thanks for the expanded explanation. I actually prefer this image and have no objection to the anhinga in the corner. |

I see a montage of these, telling the story.

I should have mentioned that the contrast in angles between the weed's stem and the tree trunk, is part of the reason I was struggling about removing the white. Plus, I'm a firm believer in the benefit of learning rules of composition, etc., and then knowing that it is ok to break them if it results in a better effect. |

I agree with Judy about cropping from the right. I wonder if you had taken a few steps to the right and shot fewer boats. I think I would like them with the fence behind them and some, but not too much grass in front. It feels like softer focus than I would like. I like the sky as it appears that a storm or may just a fog bank is forming in the back. Has a nice feel to it. Makes me miss summer! |

I can see why this caught your attention. It looks like diamonds on a bracelet. I like the slight left lean of the twig. I honestly cannot decide if I like the white in the background or not?? At our camera club we are always warned that white/bright areas distract the eye from the subject and I think that happens in this case. On the other hand, it provides some variety in the background. As I said, I can't quite decide in this case. |

This is certainly an interesting image of a very sad event. I agree the first is more of a journalistic image. As such, it gives us a good overview of the story. I also like the second image you submitted. Together they tell the story. I do wish the house foundation and chimney were more prominent in the first image, they get a little lost in the busy background. Did you happen to take any where they were more prominent, along with the truck? Good to always have your camera with you.

I am not sure but it looks like they may be on a nest? The lighting is very nice. You didn't mention post processing, but either over sharpening or the lack of reach of your lens,it appears that the head/ neck and legs are piexelated?? Also, very minor, but you have a small dust spot to the right of the birds. Easy to fix.

I like your subject very much, especially like the texture and color of the background board. I took the liberty to play around with the image. First I reduced the luminance and exposure as it felt too bright as it appeared on my monitor. I cropped the bottom and left side as I feel the background should just include the green board. I did not take the time, but you could remove the brown background from the top as well by replacing it. Removed the green stem and a small brown leaf from the top. |

You and your daughter both did a great job on this. I love the composition, with one lady facing the photographer, the second in profile. I do agree that the original background is busy and distracting. I prefer the separation from background that you have in the final, but am not sure I like the gold circles. While it suggests festivity, for me it overwhelms the image. Can you try just a blurred background? By the way, I appreciate you explaining that the background was not yours. It's ok to use that, but if in a competition they would disqualify the image. |
