Judy, I love playing with macro, but find focus sometimes frustrating. I'm not familiar with this flower but it makes a fascinating subject. My biases aside, I do like what Bob did with the image. Looking forward to seeing you in SLC. |

To join in on this discussion, I Think it depends entirely on what you are trying to accomplish. Both approaches have their place and we all have our individual preferences on top of that. I am not bothered by images that have had a lot of post processing, except as Leonid mentions if it is photojournalism or nature, or intended to depict a close to exact replica of the scene.

The decision to crop or not to crop always of course should be that of the photographer and what he/she is trying to accomplish. |

I would leave the sky in. Did you look at removing the ledge at the bottom? .... or minimizing it to just a tiny strip?

Thank you all for you comments. I like Judy's presentation. I had removed some petals that were blurred and I thought distracting, but perhaps that was not enough.

I always enjoy playing around with the crop. You can often find the picture within a picture. In this case, I, too, prefer the original with a little off the top and bottom. |

Eye catching image! I know nothing about sailing, but it makes me want to try it!. I love the color, contrast, sharpness of the image. Your crop is excellent as it brings us right into the scene. The sky looks a little grainy and there are spots which I assume are water spots on your lens. Easy to clean up. The graininess might also be water, not sure. Well done and welcome again to our group! |

Beautiful beaded necklace and costume on this Maasai woman. I like the intensity of her gaze as you captured it. Not sure if she is posing for you or just tired of people taking her photo that day but she looks somewhat bothered. You did a great job replacing the background. I did not realize you had done that until I re-read your description. Having said that, I would have preferred a different background other than concrete. The juxtaposition of the traditional dress vs the modern world concrete doesn't quite fit what I would like to see. Either way, I would eliminate some of the background through cropping so our attention is better drawn to this woman. |

While it is interesting to see the various architectural elements in this image, it is a bit busy for me. "George" seems to be lost in the image, not just because of the lighting, but because there are so many elements in the image. I think a second option would be to crop the monument to George. I did that, plus used a radial blur to try to better emphasize the church and mounted George. But then, that is an entirely different image than you may have wanted. Interesting sky and your editing overall was well done. |

I enjoy doing street photography, because I enjoy watching people. Still, it is difficult. At events such as a parade, I may tell them I have taken their photo and offer to send it to them later. In this case, you have captured a nice interaction between these two ladies. The one thing that bothers me is your crop on the left side. I would bring it in closer to her shoulder ... perhaps by the white vertical of the window frame. |
