Robert, these are all opinions, based on our experience , technical knowledge, and just plain personal preference. Sometimes i "fall in love" with one of my images and everyone else goes "eh". If you prefer the leaf in, leave it in!

Ok. I think I prefer it without the tilt, but that may just be me. |

I am wondering how much you increased the saturation on this given the intensity of the red on the man's shirt? His shirt almost glows? Beautiful place, beautiful sky, but maybe back off on the intensity very very slightly??

Perhaps it is my "old eyes"?? I've been working on a lot of macro photography lately and Bob and I will be hosting a macro workshop for our camera club later this month. I've found that going to a "dollar" store or even a second hand store can result in finding some interesting items to photograph without much expense. There are a lot of macro tutorials online. Here is one: https://photographylife.com/macro-photography-tutorial |

Thanks Robert. That sounds pretty simple. This is the kind of information sharing that is one of the benefits of these groups. |

My version may be over saturated. But I do like the blown out areas toned down more. |

This seems to be the season for macro photography. I think since this is a straight on shot of the flower, I prefer Judy's version with just the flower, no leaf. The image does appear a little soft to me. I shoot Nikon and use a 105mm macro lens plus extension tubes and a macro rail. This set up works well for me. I'd be interested in some of your other images. |

Very nicely done. It does seem to me to be slightly tilted to the left?? |

I'd like to know how you did it, also, Judy? My only other suggestion is to remove one of the branches. I find it distracting. Here's my example. |

I agree with Jon in that some of the flower tips seem blown out. I reduced the hilights and cropped some off the top and added a very minimal vignette. Recently I went to a Conservatory in Seattle and tried photographing orchids there. They are so beautiful, but I, too, find it difficult to get the right composition. |

Does this help? I increased the contrast and blacks. It was rather "blah". |

I cannot remember what if anything it was connected to, but not a gauge. I just found it to be an interesting shape with all the other pipes, etc. Actually, this is not bw although it has a mono look to it. Probably not my best image, but I enjoyed playing around with the composition. |
