Having something in the foreground can really make a difference in an image like this. It seems especially important when using a wide angle. I think it makes a difference between a viewing a "nice picture" and feeling as if you are right there, part of it.

Based on your description, here are some of my thoughts.
1. You obviously thought a lot about what you wanted to accomplish, and spent more than one photo shoot trying to accomplish your vision. This is good practice.
2. You tried several crops but decided on the one you prefer, again to reach your goal. I prefer a crop to move the tree out of the center and to enhance the leading lines on the right, but this is YOUR image and YOUR vision.
3. Although as in #1 above, you had an initial concept, I find that being willing to vary from that often does result in a new/ better discovery.

I, too, would crop off the top to the first bar before the light fixtures. I also like the increased contrast. My only other issue is when I enlarged it on my screen, I discovered there are lots of cobwebs! (Doesn't anyone there dust their lights?!). I found them distracting. Clone them out? |

I love the peaceful mood this suggests. The sky colors are beautiful. I like the rock/ sunken log? in your foreground. It leads the viewer nicely into the image. |

Jessica I always enjoy your work and your willingness to try something different. For me, this one appears too busy. There is a lot of contrast between the green trees and your subject fountain/ bridge plus the foreground. |

I don't have much to add except I do like Robert's version. Thanks Robert for sharing the dof website. |

Jessica, I think most of it is the rain (drizzly). But, I think since it had the water drops, I think I tried to soften it to give it a more dreamy look. Not sure.

I find the subject fascinating. It definitely needs more contrast and straightening. I like what Robert did with it.

Thanks for your suggestions, Robert. And, I probably did oversaturate. It is a beautiful place. There are actually 10 waterfalls in this park, with a loop trail for those more physically prepared than I. This is all near Silverton, OR. There are also covered bridges in the area. A great place to visit. About an hour south of Portland OR. |
