40 Apr 22 Reply Thanks, Nigel! I think your crop works well!
I feel like the whites on the bird are a bit dulled, though....

40 Apr 22 Comment Then I tried B&W Apr 23rd
40 Apr 22 Comment I've played with it some more. Also used a slightly different shot, more overhead. Tried to make it look more like a crime scene shot. Tried in color first. Apr 23rd
40 Apr 22 Reply I look forward to seeing more! great location to photograph. Apr 23rd
40 Apr 22 Comment I also tried cropping out the reeds as per comments Apr 23rd
40 Apr 22 Reply I've read everyone's comments and tried playing with it a bit. I erased the branch that bothered people and the stick across the bird's feet. Then I selected and masked the bird to enhance him a bit and tried to blur the background a little in PS using Camera Raw slider but that really didn't work. I liked the reeds on either side as a frame: Apr 23rd
40 Apr 22 Reply Henry, I like your crop, as the rocks on the right and left act as a frame, but felt more could be done. I brought down the burnt out light in Camera Raw in PS and then ran it through Topaz AI Sharpen. This is what I got. Apr 23rd
40 Apr 22 Reply Andrew, I like your crop and the way you highlighted texture. Still, I wanted to see the light on top so I played with Henry's version, see below. Apr 23rd
40 Apr 22 Reply Don, I hope you feel better. Apr 23rd
40 Apr 22 Reply I agree with everyone, this shot is fantastic. The lines feel natural to me. I love the work you did on the colors.
And maybe you should get a new camera club (stick with us!!!!). The Chandelier is the story here. In fact, if I were to change anything, I would suggest cropping a tiny bit off the top, to make it clearer the chandelier is the anchor, our visual point of entry, and then our eyes travel down along the pictures.

40 Apr 22 Reply Andrew, what difference would using a 24mm make over a 28mm? Apr 23rd
40 Apr 22 Comment I love this shot. I liked your original sky, but do appreciate the slider work Martin Newland did on the bird itself. I'm going to try to duplicate what he did.
But to me it seemed the overcast feeling sky was a better match for the bird's mood than the blue sky with clouds.
Nigel, I would love to see your version, could you post it?

40 Apr 22 Comment I prefer the color. I agree with Catherine that the reflections are the topic.
I didn't notice the tilt until Andrew pointed it out, but now I can't unsee it.
I think this is a rich area for you to photograph and your instinct to try it in B&W was good (I also appreciate all the step by step editing description, so I can try it myself). The variety of textures stand out more in the B&W. I hope you will go back to this area and continue to take pictures. I would like to see more shots that make it clear that this is a rice-growing area, just out of personal interest....

40 Apr 22 Comment Henry, you really did good with this one! I've been to sunflower farms a couple times and never got the shot I wanted. The wide-angle lens is genius. I prefer the shot as is, don't crop the left, because it gives a feeling of a "crowd" of sunflowers marching toward me. If anything I might try cropping a little bit of the sky, to make the front flower loom larger.
The bees are like a little Easter Egg reward.
Just lovely all around. You set out to do something quite specific and you nailed it!
