40 Jul 20 Reply It would be interesting to see the B&W, but I suspect it won't seem any better. It is almost monochromatic as it is,except for the red bars that make up the middle structure of the bridge. I personally find those appealing. Jul 30th

40 Jul 20 Reply Dear Jaime,
The move went as well as it could given the difficult circumstances. I drove up in a car with my two teenagers, that took three days, we tried to carry our own food and stop as little as possible. It was amazing how differently people behave about the pandemic in different states. In FL in late June no one was taking any precautions. In the hotel they served us a hot breakfast, but they didn't let us get our own food. No one wore masks. In VA they gave us a bag breakfast and the desk receptionist gave me a cup of coffee, I didn't make my own. They had plexiglass at the reception but no masks. In CT the hotel almost didn't let us stay there as we were from Florida. Finally they made us take rooms at the end of the building on first floor and we could only use side door, not walk through lobby nor get food. Of course we wore masks at all times. In NH we moved into our new house which we rented sight unseen. It is very old, run down, and dirty, even though the rent is high-pandemic gauging. We quarantined the first two weeks as NH requires, spent that time cleaning and unpacking. We need some new pieces of furniture which are difficult to get, supplies are low as people aren't working and making things. It will be a month before I can get my kid a desk, myself a bureau, and two months before I can get a bed for the guest bedroom. This even though we are in Manchester, a small city. Now that we are through with quarantine we are doing another round of cleaning, making needed repairs to the house, and driving around getting to know our new place. IT is very hot and they don't have AC here like we did in FL. I am mostly too tired to take pictures. I have been corresponding with the Manchester Camera Club (part of PSA) and tomorrow they have a virtual meeting. I'm hoping eventually to get out and take some night photographs of Manchester with a "noir" feeling to them. Also my daughter will come visit this week because it is my birthday tomorrow so I plan to take some portraits of her and her boyfriend (who we haven't met yet) if she lets me; she is usually very camera shy. So I am thinking about pictures though not taking any yet. I did get to see comet Neowise - from my office window! but I didn't try to photograph it. Just too tired.

40 Jul 20 Reply Henry I find it much better. Now the story is clear, almost as if the two boats were talking to each other.
I do feel the bottom is cropped a little two much- we should be able to see the entire reflection of the white boat. So crop just a teeny bit less...

40 Jul 20 Comment I tried some of the changes suggested. Jul 24th
40 Jul 20 Comment This picture is beautifully composed. There is a silky look, I was going to ask you how you achieved it and then I read that it came from a slide.
I see something that looks like a little square reflection at the top of the frame, can you clone that out?
I would add contrast to the sky if possible, but not replace it. A busier sky would detract from your lovely bridge.

40 Jul 20 Comment Wow, Jamie, what an image, what a catch! I hope this image is of good enough quality that you can print a large version, it could hang on a wall. I do think of it as an "Ansel Adams" image.
I would suggest playing with the sliders to make the whites whiter, the blacks blacker. I like the gold ground at the bottom of the frame, but you could consider trying it all in black and white to focus on the textures. Beautiful picture. I dream of going to Iceland someday.

40 Jul 20 Comment I have a little trouble with this image, because I have the kind of mind that keeps wanting to know what it is, what's going on.
I also found my eye traveling away from it. I think the upper left white portion is a little too bright, and my eye shies away.
A suggestion would be to crop some of the top, so the line where the boat meets the water is not so centered, and to take out some of that very white patch. You could clone out some of the bird shadow so it doesn't look cropped. I agree with Andrew, crop out the darker shadow on the right. This makes the story about a shadow on the reflection, even if our conscious mind doesn't quite grasp what the story is. The textures in the image are quite lovely.

40 Jul 20 Comment This was a very good catch! You had to be quick and capture the right moment.
I would suggest cropping on the left to take out the white stripe and the tree, as Andrew suggested, and then crop out some of the sky, to achieve a more letter-box shape for the image. I feel that that crop would also focus the story: this is about the early riser boat passing the still-sleepy boat. A little crop of the bottom to take out that little bush in the foreground would help too. Lovely, calm, image.

40 Jul 20 Comment I can't improve on other comments made here. It is a fabulous picture. From the way you tell the story, it almost sounds as if he came down and posed for you!
Sharon's suggestions sound right to me.I do agree the background could be blurred a little more.
