Wow, what a difference between your original and the final! Incredible!
Of all the things you did, the thing that really made the picture powerful was the cropping, IMHO, though the slider work also makes what's important (the puffins) stand out.
But the cropping is how you told the story: there's a group of Puffins all looking one way, and one odd-man out puffing making eye contact with us.
The white border was also a brilliant addition. I've never played with borders, I will have to try it. |

I agree with Anne, great picture, great color, great graphic design.
I would suggest cropping on the left to the black line. This might remove the part that bothers you.
It is you who has to be satisfied with your photograph first and foremost. So try that and see how you feel about it.
PS I would love to see the original, just for my own learning purposes. |

Dear Andrew,
I've never been to York so I don't know this cathedral. I went online and looked at other people's images of it. Your image does capture more than one could capture with a wide-angle lens. I doubt a single photograph, no matter how wide the lens, could capture what you have captured here. So the picture does acquaint me with the cathedral, but the distortion of course makes it difficult for it to do more than that.
I recently learned about something called Vertoramas. I don't have the gear to try one and of course now I can't go out so I couldn't do it anyway, but it is something you might want to look into. For example: https://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-shoot-vertical-panoramas-vertoramas/
I am amazed that you were able to knit together these images taken with out a tripod! Luckily you had good light that day! I would love to see what you can get if you go back with a tripod, use a "normal" lense, take a series of pictures vertically that overlap, then knit them together. Something to look forward to when we are out of lockdown. |

Hi Henry!
Your HDR worked wonderfully! I've been to Bruges and I love this image, it really sums up the feel of it.
I would suggest cropping out some of the sky, so you cut out most of that dark cloud. Just clear the weather vane on the left a bit. Then the focus becomes how the sky highlights the church towers.
Beautiful picture!
I'm in South Florida which is becoming a new hotspot. Two of our four kids are with us and we are taking our lock down very seriously. I have a daughte rin NYC, that's scary. Our other daughter is in a remote area of NH, she is probably the safest of all of us, along with her toddler and husband. Knock on wood we get through this month without any issues. |

Dear Jaime,
I have never been to this place, I only know it through people's photography. I think your frame is very good, though I agree cropping out a little foreground would help.
I'd like to see you play with the sliders a little more. I would say, clarify and dehaze.Raise whites slightly so that background is even brigther, raise blacks. And /or raise exposure slightly. I feel that overall the image is a little dim, but doesn't have to be. What you want is in there, and now that it's closed, your photograph is even more valuable to people like me who will probably never see it! |
