Thanks, Judy. I don't think it is your banged head. The Spherized filter in Photoshop didn't work for me as well as I'd hoped. My application of it wasn't as effective as I hoped either, and I don't think this was destined for the wall anyway. I was told I am a disgrace to DD and PSA, so I'll leave my Creative side in DD34.
No more falls! We hope you guys have great holidays.

Hi Judy, I really love grand vistas, and the four layers of your image are terrific. Sometimes it is nice to see it all in an image, and not just the micro sections. As always your shots are exposed perfectly, and everything in focus. I always need to play with images, and all I did was add a little warmth, and hopefully some depth. The eye is drawn to the snow, but the sharp foreground mountain textures add balance. |

Thanks, Joel. A new crop might work for you. Is this better or too unbalanced? Thank you for the support. |

Thanks, Karen. Not surprising. What are your thoughts about the new? |

Hi Karen, You've created a good image for the leaves. I think red is the hardest color to manage. The main leaf has great texture, the lower left is a bit overexposed. Were you trying a new technique? |

Hi Kathy, I'm glad you are trying new techniques on your images. Bob Legg is a good member to emulate. What processes did you use to create this new version? Normally I wouldn't want us to submit images already doing well in competition, but since this is a substantially new image, I will say it is nicely processed. The dark background shows off the colored snaky looking water flows that you captured originally. The colors remain attractive, yet the feeling of this version is much punchier than the original. I do think it is more eye-catching. If I were judging it I would add it as a creative win. |

Thanks, Tim. Very generous comments. I AM old (school.) The image is different, and not supposed to be a portfolio creation. I agree that the shadow created from the Distort filter should be removed, and I didn't actually notice it. I was more concerned about what to leave in the abyss. The image is so poor that BobL decided to move to DD10. I guess I'll quit experimenting in General, and keep my creative images in DD34. |

Hi Bob,
At the Portland PSA Festival I went to a Brooks Jenson (Lenswork) lecture and he referenced a book called Art and Fear. There are three questions posed by Goethe also referenced.
1. What was the artist trying to achieve?
2. Did he/she succeed?
3. Was it worth doing?
I try to ask these questions now during the editing process. I know you like to create, and this is one example of that process. I think you put some thought into the descriptions that answer question 1.
2. You succeeded.
3. Needs more work. I don't understand the result. It is underwhelming in visual appeal to me. Flat and dominant in midtones.
What sprang to life for you? What would you want to do that for me? Where is it that my eye is to go?
I might consider some D&B at least to guide us through the image. I couldn't come up with anything that would be appealing. but I thought maybe adding some shadow and light might aid a viewer.

Thanks, Kathy. I used the image for the reasons you stated.
I'm still learning what I want to create, so this is just one more attempt. I have hit a wall on following the "rules" and I am going to use the available tools in Adobe and Topaz to create images that are different.
It would help me immensely if you would also comment on the image I submitted. Feel free to experiment by down loading either image, if that will help you.

Hi Tim, I think there is plenty of room for a decent image. There is a nice diagonal through three riders. I might start there and simplify the background. I'm unsure of the brightness of the sky, but the image could use some D&B. |

The diagonal created by the smoke is very good and that line leads to the model very well. Nice work, Frans. |

Hi Jan, The image reminds me of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" book series, without the creatures. More of a Light Tower! Great work and clear explanation of how you did it. You have a great style to your work. Your images are always inspirational to me. |

Hi Steve, I guess I'm a little late, since you've already used the image in competition successfully. If I were to make a suggestion, it would be to separate the lower wing and background as their color is too similar. That may not pose a problem in 3D, but it looks like a problem in 2D. I hope your image does well. |

Hi Frans. Excellent composite and I do like the thought that death need not be scary. I do think death is an unknown for many though, and I wish that the smoke would come over with Original 2. I also think the bed isn't necessary. I did a little work just to show what I think, but your vision is terrific. |

Thanks, Frans. I think I just need to add some masks to my layers that will lower the impact of the trees. and may not let the green become slime colored. This is turning into being a great learning experience for me. |

Thanks, Jan. I increased the B&W layer opacity , removed the tree layer and it is closer to a real photographed image now. Not sure I really like it better myself. |

Thank you, Peter. The green is close to being overwhelming. I didn/t use levels, but I did some adjustments based on your comments in LR, to crop and tone down the green. No one seems to like the slime green! |

Thank you, Peter. I do enjoy the elements that caught your eye. I agree with the clean-up you did. I like the space at the top in the original. The moat seemed to be an addition to meet the "Creative" category though, as the colors are too vivid compared to the rest of the image. It doesn't add anything for me. The bright top level of sky overwhelms the columns and draws my eye. I might consider burning that area, although I didn't. I played around try to add some color and tonal harmony with Artistic filters in PS. I also restored some canvas. Just some of my thoughts. |
