Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
13 Aug 25 Comment Hi Tim, Love the shot. If you can shoot again, maybe try to use a CP filter to cut through the glare. I cleaned up the image some in PS and expanded the canvas to give the vet(te) a little more room. Visiting Current Images. Aug 26th

18 Aug 25 Reply Thank you so much, Robin. Aug 24th
18 Aug 25 Reply I should have masked at least the fire on the left and the rails the train was on, but since it isn't my image, I was less than careful. Your image is far superior in storytelling. Aug 23rd
18 Aug 25 Reply Thank you, Joan. I debated (with myself) a lot before deciding how far to allow the water to dominate. I ended up leaving the shadows in to give the horses more time to get away.
I opened a Gradient Fill Layer. I changed the Blend Mode to Linear Light and the Fill to 10%. I then changed the gradient properties type to Noise, Roughness to 40%, Color Model to HSB, unchecked both options then used the Option-Randomize button to create different colors until I got the colors that worked for me. Then I changed the fill until it looked right to me.
Linear Light (a combination D&B mode) is one of the blend modes that is controlled by Fill, and not Opacity.

18 Aug 25 Reply Thanks, Ian. I did shoot in bursts, and the chase lasted some time. The story of this composite is the encroaching water, IMO, so as Joan states the horses reaction to the flood is just a supporting element. I'm attempting to allow the viewer to fill in blanks with imagination. Aug 21st
18 Aug 25 Comment Hi Joan, Great composite. I took the liberty of cleaning up the background a little. Have you tried masking in her face a bit to add even more punch to the story? Just a thought. Aug 12th
18 Aug 25 Comment Hi Robin, Love the story telling, not particularly the story. I like it in B&W too. Even though the tree has a lot of history for you, I'm not sure it should be the focal point for the image. Lots of color noise or chromatic aberration, which I tried to remove in LR. PS or Topaz would probably work better. Aug 12th
18 Aug 25 Comment Hi Jan, I'm unsure what you want from me, if anything. Your description is vague. I can say according to the group guidelines for Creative that the diptych is haunting. The atmosphere or effect lends itself to the overall quality, as does the frame. The blur was either in camera or via editing, but well done either way.
Where are these two selections and what program was used? Did your image do well in club?

The images are presented for Group members to study and critique by offering constructive comments on the artistic merit, technical strengths and weaknesses of each image. In some cases, group members will post a rework of the image to demonstrate their suggestions

18 Aug 25 Comment Hi Ian, I admire your vision for the train. The original image is a great start and the fire image is very strong. I wonder if the train gets a little lost, yet it takes up half the image. I played with it (too much, probably) just to try to make the train stand out more. I masked the train and played with the crop and used a remove brush to get rid of some white lines that I feel are distracting. I lost the fire, but still like having your train stand out. Maybe you can make some adjustments, and keep your fiery concept. Aug 11th

29 Aug 25 Reply Thanks, Tim. The spots probably are from the lens. but the mustangs also tend to bite each other pretty hard, and they have a lot of scars.
Now that I look at them closer, each is in the same exact spot on the same leg of each. Since 2005, the Salt Lake Field Office has been applying fertility control vaccinations to mares in the HMA. I'm now wondering if these may be vaccination scars from BLM. I will tone down the whites on the hoof and trails. That should be an easy mask to create.
If anyone knows more about what a vaccination scar would look like I'd make a decision on the spots, or if it just makes the image better by removing them, I can do that too.

29 Aug 25 Reply Thank you, Karen. I prefer it because of the nostalgia. Our favorite part was setting up at the BLM provided watering hole and watching the herd meander to drink. We just stood there like statues when they arrived. The first arrived and ran around us, decided we weren't a threat and then the rest all arrived and watered according to their hierarchy. A truly awesome experience. Aug 17th
29 Aug 25 Reply Thanks, Judy. We did spend a week ahead of the SLC Conference in Eden and got shots of the Wasatch Mountains. Then a one day trip to Simpson Springs with Wild Horse Adventures with Rob Daugherty. He no longer offers this tour as BLM has relocated ninety per cent of the herd. Aug 17th
29 Aug 25 Reply Here is a same crop. but still not sure what you might want. I removed the rails and a post blocking the canal, but maybe you took other images from the same area. I may be on the wrong track, and others may have better comments. The water sprays or bridge at the far end of the canal looks weird to me. Aug 15th
29 Aug 25 Reply You want to show the whole canal. If I remove the bike, which is the nearest and largest element, and look at an f64 tone assessment, the canal is totally black. What would you want to be the subject? Aug 15th
29 Aug 25 Reply Thanks, Bob. Very good suggestions for processing using my favorite apps. Aug 15th
29 Aug 25 Reply Thanks, Elaine. The mountains probably also need to be lightened, like the mustangs neck. As you see in the original photo they were much farther away than they seem in the submitted image. The guide spotted the dust in the sky, then we waited for about 45 minutes before they came into the valley. They follow some patterns in their movement which is why our guide was successful. 29 Aug 25 Comment Hi Kathy, the model shoots are sometimes a zoo. Dorinda always goes, and has taken a couple of good shots. Yours is a better shot. Very sharp, exposure great, eyes looking at the camera. Definitely a portfolio image. Aug 9th
29 Aug 25 Comment Hi Bob, Yes, I will feel it necessary to do some editing. That's what being part of a photo study group means to me. I think the abstract is fine as is. You did great work intensifying the colors, without going overboard (pun intended.) I'm unsure that the white reflection stuff in the lower blue adds to the image so I removed it.
I see a cartoon boa constrictor eating his spinach in the bottom section, and am trying to help anyone seeing it with my cropped image. It isn't a suggestion.

29 Aug 25 Comment Hi Karen, using color for your subject is okay. Yellow emotions typically linked to happiness, optimism, and energy. However, yellow can also evoke more complex and sometimes contradictory emotions like caution, betrayal, or even anger. I'm not a big fan of large yellow objects, unfortunately. Your technical skills behind the lens are fabulous as always. I even see a gator if you put two eyes on the middle hill. I have done a 5x7 crop to keep the fisherman but lost the duck. Saves my old eyeballs from the splotch of yellow. Even Sunflowers have a black center. Just a personal hang-up for me. I love the bulk of your work. Aug 9th
29 Aug 25 Comment Hi Judy, I love these images of yours. This one has all of your technical skills we love. Sharp, moody, strong composition and a story. That being said, I have to play which is why I love DDG. I started with a auto level transform and 5x7 crop. Then a small white balance adjustment, reduced the saturation and added some detail. No change are needed in my opinion, and despite the presidents wishes, we'll never be a manufacturing nation again. It would be too expensive.

29 Aug 25 Comment Hi Elaine, I like the shot as a travel image. It is sharp and the exposure good. I've always struggled with wide angle lenses getting a good foreground subject. I think a vertical crop of the bike would do well in competition. The color seemed a little greenish to me, so I changed the white balance to more of a midnight blue sky. Aug 9th
29 Aug 25 Comment Hi Tim, I love this action shot. The crop for me is well done, and if I superimpose a golden spiral from the top left along the clouds, it leads me right into the biker. There is also a subtle triangle formed from the lower and middle right white cloud areas outlined by darkness (attached image shows the areas) The colors are terrific, and plenty of room for a landing. I like that we get to add our own landing spot to the story.
I might consider adding some warm light to the rider. The bike is well lit as is. Great shot.

29 Aug 25 Reply Thank you, Kathy. I did shoot full images of these horses many times and liked the dusty original half shot best. At the time the rumor was that BLM was going to sell off the land and horses, but the final decision was much better. Aug 6th

30 Aug 25 Comment Hi Dorinda, I too, like this image. The people as elements aren't large enough or as interesting as the bike. I can imagine someone taking their bike to this beach. I removed them all, but you could also leave one person to complete a story. I also think more blur adds depth to the image. Aug 25th

54 Aug 25 Comment Hi Maria, visiting from DD18. I'm looking at this month's Current Images, and my eye was grabbed by your image. The texture, color and clarity are breathtaking to me. I like that the darker texture adds some hint of shadows, but with the sky as is, no clear shadows should be there. I like the triangle of the girl, house and tree. The large flowers seem to add a fourth element that isn't needed. I'm not a fan of borders, especially for DD images, as they inhibit members from creating a copy and showing their suggestions.

I removed the flowers and added a gradient for only a different look, but really wouldn't change anything, except maybe for the size or color of the main bouquet.
