Hi Gaetan, visiting from DD18. Your image stood out for me in this month's Current Images. Your use of tones, colors, and composition are superb, and you either had great light, or created it in post. The feeling I get is of being in a machinery fairyland.
I visited Mauritius while in the USN, and it is also a fairyland sea resort. |

Thanks, Robin. We mostly do comment on impact(I hope.) If you haven't yet, please read the Guidelines menu.
https://psadigital.org/resources/guidelines.php
I am confused by your concept of originals. They do not need to be your original image file. The "Original 1,2,3" concept is for what image(s) you started with to create your current image. If using PS, then that would be your background layer. If adding elements from other images, that image would be O1, O2, etc. If using a different editor that would be helpful to know for our comments.
Looking forward to your images that follow. |

Welcome, Robin. Outstanding work. Excellent balance and presentation. Feels quite eerie. It would be helpful to have more information about how you did it and what you might like from us. It reminds me of the work of Francisco Goya in later life.
If the puppets are branded and trademark products like say Muppets for example, then you are not free to use them this way. If dolls are copyrighted, like Barbie, you cannot REPRODUCE them. If they are very generic puppets/dolls and you photograph them, then this is likely not an issue. I wouldn't consider this figure a work of art. But your image certainly is! |

Thanks, Robin. Welcome. I'm looking forward to your images. Glad you saw the moon, but it can be construed as a planet. Two votes for warmer clouds in the transition. I'm now wondering if I should go with a complementary orange or red. I'll try them too. |

Thank you, Ian. There was mist in the valleys. I struggled some with the crop, but as my intention is to give equal weight to both beauty and conflict, I ended up with the dreaded 50/50 land and sky. I like your yellow saturation and wonder if that would take away the usefulness of the upper sky and lead me back to Gunther's crop. One of my "returns to it often" images that may never reach a conclusion. At least it is progressing beyond the snapshot stage. |

I'm sorry Ian, but I totally disagree with your interpretation. Infringing on copyrights, intellectual property rights, or other legal rights of PSA is in the PSA Ethics Policy 3bii would be considered unfair or illegal, depending on the copyright status.

I believe that you're taking this picture violates either the copyright or intellectual property rights of this art. It is my understanding that if you take an image of the box within its environment it would then make your image usable. (I attach a poor example)
Of course, this is only a study group, and it isn't important unless you try to enter it into a PSA competition.

I am deducing that the muddy dark blotches in the magenta sky were clouds in the original originals' images. Really excellent work. I hope you can stave off the macular degeneration as long as possible. |

Thank you, Joan. I am so sorry to hear about your husband.
I think the analogous colors work but wonder about whether it might have been stronger with the dark and light tones reversed giving more weight to the bottom, as is more common. I'm glad that you gave as good an explanation of what you remember doing as you did. I can seldom remember 15 seconds ago. As usual I've played with your image to give you feedback only. The clouds are hard to work around. |

Hi Yolandi, I have looked back over your previous images and agree more should be done inside the group with our images. I hope that you will join us in trying hard to meet Barbara's standards, and in fact, PSA competitions.
I like the concept of making an advertisement. I think the Y created by the glass, splash and ice create harmony and balance within the frame. To make it more creative, I've "Place embedded" one of my sky images to your image to change the background and add light in places. I then resized using a new 4x5 crop. There is too little space at the top for the splash to move. I then used a border filter within the Render filter. Just some thoughts to start you thinking. |

Thanks, Gunter, your new image meets any standard for creativity. I had been thinking your original would be a good background image for a later composition, as suggested in Joan's comment. I keep many background and sky images for that purpose, although I don't qualify as a creme de la creme processor yet. The circles add an interest and some patterns to the colors. I've added a swirl and warming layer. Just another level of possible interest, and some added some fun for me to create. |

Hi Ian, my wife, daughter, and I have all been paid by our county here in WA for original art to cover traffic light electronics boxes, and I assume that this box art would also be the artwork of another, unless AI created. I agree with the other members that this image is not something I wish you to continue to add more work to, neither for competition nor your portfolio.
If this is too harshly worded, I will understand if you delete it as our group admin. I can rethink the wording. |

Thanks, Gunter. Your image IS more peaceful, and that gives me some hope for this image. One of the things that always drives me back to South Dakota is the conflicting emotions I have there. The beauty of the open prairies but also the violence that led to Custer and the battle at Little Big Horn overriding that part of the US. Despite the "noble red man" myth and the "manifest destiny' bunk, our American history was always violent and abusive to some peoples. I want that part shown in my image too. |

Hi Joan, thank you for the welcome and kind words. I rejoined PSA and DD last month. I have been active since 2012 and attended many PSA Annual Conferences, starting in San Francisco until sidelined by health issues. My goals going forward are to bring more feeling and create fine art with my photography. I like to print our (Dorinda-DD30) images.

Thank for the tips, Jan. I had an extremely challenging time activating the Filters Gallery to find and use the Poster Edges filter. I'll have to research working with 8bit images. I save my images in 14bits in camera, so I always have worked on 16bit images.
I submitted this comment image to one of our DD18 members using your techniques as I understand them. |

Hi Jan, I am visiting from DD18, and your image just stood out so much while I was scanning through this month's Current Images. I love fine art photography and especially Impressionist images.
I am also retired and spent most of my USN career in the bay area, with many trips to San Diego to pick up air squadrons from NAS North Island.
Thank you so much for your detailed explanation and original images. I am looking forward to trying the Poster Edges filter and seeing if I can figure out why it might be a favorite.
Your website is lovely too. Learning never gets old. Well done, Jan. |
