Thanks, Fred. I still must find a good reference for adding shadows under my subjects. Dorinda thought the cowboy added "the old west" to the story. Good suggestion about the grass. |

Hi Angela, I appreciate the demanding work you put in. I'm not sure why the image is so small, almost like a thumbnail. I struggle with shadows too. I agree that the perspectives may be off a little and the walls need transformed (barrel distortion?) The ruler tool helps in PS to get this accurate. Highly creative, and once done gradients can help tie tones together. |

Hi Fred, Creative as always, but I don't feel any connection between all these instruments and ragtime, usually played on a piano. Berlin's song did bring attention to ragtime even though it was a march, not ragtime. The piano in the upper right is too dark to make out. Whiter sheet music and just the piano and a clarinet would do it for me. |

Hi Bob,
Really well-done image and I like the simplicity, and the color grading. She is well-placed, although I wonder if you tried manipulating either hand to appear as if she is holding onto or reaching for the halo. That probably changes your story though. I think it is appealing as a B&W too. |

Thanks, Angela. I wanted to figure out the shadow issue on the gray/grey mare and then I will reduce his size. Good comment. Yes, as a male of the species, I KNOW that a tight groin cinch makes animals buck! My wife helped me make the transparency correct, and she is usually a tremendous help, but I'll decide when I get it closer to finished. I am hoping for the bush and its shadow to move well for me. |

Thanks, Bob. I used the transparent bronc buster as a thought, not a component. My idea was that I would humanize the thought that they are glad they are free, and not a horse for entertainment, or that the viewer would see what could happen if they were broken.
You are right about the bush. It needs to be moved and bothered me a lot during the process.
I ended up with a smart object instead of a separate layer for my drop shadows and when I went to the drop shadow in the smart layer, I made the mess of my Transform on the palomino, so hoping I can get a better reference for creating drop shadows from the group. I'm using PSCC 2022.

Thank you, Bob. Lensbaby's are relatively cheap, but Dorinda likes them. Less work than PS. |

I am sorry if my comments seem off the mark to you. I got a covid booster last week. and became sick all week, I may see the elephant's ear in the center clouds. I envy your ability to attain any yoga position. I struggle to sit in a chair. You are always on the right track, and interesting.
The image is sharp, and the narrative in your wheelhouse. Wonderful job. |

We each struggle with the choices in composition and editing our work, which is a good reason we are in a group that helps each other. |

This is an image from the practice shoot outside the restaurant. A good lens, a "meh" photographer. |

Thanks, Haru. Foliage and landscapes are definitely better subjects for this lens, or composing dreamy portraits. |

Thank you, Kate. It is distracting, I agree. Probably not a lens for seascapes. |

Thanks, Dan. I took this while Dorinda (DD30) and I ate lunch at our favorite outdoor restaurant on Commencement Bay in Tacoma. We shot foliage on the waterfront with our Lensbaby's before eating. Those images aren't Scapes though so I couldn't use them. I don't like the shoreline/sky area so I wouldn't use it like this again. The foliage images I did like. Your suggestions are spot on. Thank you. |

Hi Gloria, I envy your travels. Like the other comments, your seascape is too busy and slightly tilted. I picked out three boats of interest and left a lot of negative space in the sky. I thought the bird was a non-essential element and cloned it out. If that appeals to you, I would burn it to match the boats and eliminate the boat on the left.
It is another gorgeous sunset image, but lesser seascape. |

Hi Cheryl, I think you have taken a wonderfully sharp and interesting riverfront image. I have the same reaction as with Dan's sky this month. The right side of the sky is much less interesting to me. Cropping would add more balance for me.
If you have more reflection that you cropped out, I would try cropping more from the top, and adding more reflection which is darker by nature but would replace the story with a waterfront dominant image. |

Like all of us, sharpness is a king, but I try to remember there are certain things that must be sharp like an eye, but the rest isn't quite as important. That is why wildlife and sports photographers carry such ridiculously heavy, long, expensive lenses so the background is blurry.
I also like to think that I have focus as an option to vignettes to direct the eye. Judges may not agree.
Vignettes sometimes tend to be overdone and obvious, while out of focus areas can add depth yet keep the color, if properly done.
Ansel only had D&B to work with on his large format cameras, and to my knowledge none had an obvious full frame vignette. |

Hi Dan, I have no suggestions. I cannot even guess at this title. If this were mine though, I would consider a sky replacement. The long exposure, wide-angle combination works well, but the balance of the white and blue/gray clouds bothers me. The lines of sea stacks take me to the least interesting dark clouds. |

Hi Bob, I don't know if there is a way now to re-create the tension of your memories. The enormous destruction was carried worldwide but is now a distant memory. There are several vertical crops available, and other crops that tell different stories, we hope in the NW that our next eruption will be in someone else's lifetime. You have captured what makes the area so hard to leave. Beautiful image of southern Washington. Sorry I cropped out some of the Indian Paintbrush. |

Hi Kate. Welcome to our group. I am not an accomplished nature photographer, but animal portraits are always a treat. I'm adding another retake on your story, I must admit Bob A has already captured your gorilla well with his crop. We always try to humanize animals, but I see this sad look in more zoo animals than those in the wild. Maybe he just lost his family. Anyway, I cleaned up some of the white spots from his face and added a radial spot to highlight his eyes more. Beautiful image. |

Hi Haru,
As usual, I am going to make a different suggestion. When I look at the B&W full size, it appears very dark, and I think the highlighted areas are too small. More than half the image is in shadow. Everything is sharp, making the textures all in competition with each other, and pretty much all green in color. There is a small bit of red at the lower right, so I thought dodging the upper part would bring in more reds and cropping the lower leaves that are too repetitious. Just another idea to your image. |
