Yeah, getting bored waiting inside all day and for my surgery. I decided the sky is distracting. |

Just my opinion, and I don't do very well in competition at my club. I'm probably to abrasive, and my images aren't all that good. Good example for your light painting. |

The point of my critique was that I think the subject could be isolated (pulled to the foreground in this case.) You can use a darkened or blurred background to pull the subject forward (or alternatively) push the background back. I chose darkening so that the buoys lost their brightness and don't need to be removed, although removal does simplify a busy background. Blurring the background could also simplify.
As far as the study group, I just wanted to mention the newest changes included in CC for selecting either the subject (easier in my opinion)or background.
I have lived in Florida long enough to know it does get dark there too, because that is when the mosquitoes do their damage.
Really good sports image. |

I like the interaction of the birds, and they look sharp to me. Good work. You did a good job processing your image and the story is terrific.
Most of our friends who do shoot wildlife images shoot on shutter priority, and generally around 1/1500 sec, unless trying to show motion. One of the problems with shooting midday wildlife is the sunlight is harsh, unless you get a cloudy day, which causes some blowout on white birds. If you were able to shoot a string of these images, I would look for one where the male's wing is not covering his face.
Nikon has a 300 mm and 500 mm Fresnel PF lenses that are pretty sharp and weigh much less than the equivalent birding lenses if you want to rent one. Nature and wildlife take too much work for me, and too little sleep for Dorinda. |

Funny! I tried fill with red, and by the time I lighted it to subdue the effect enough not to compete with the green, I didn't think it was as effective. |

Good idea. I didn't like red particularly, but I add some complimentary yellow that didn't overpower the green. See what you think. |

I think I already said it was too red. I'll probably be seeing red for the next few weeks. |

We were actually on a hilly road left of the monument giving us some different angles to the monument. There were no clouds this day either. I am in the process of adding them where I need, and probably don't need this. Sometimes I just do things for practice, then run them by the group. Thanks for the input. The color palettes we saw this morning on the rocks changed by the minute. I love South Dakota but wouldn't live there if paid a million bucks. |

Thanks. I guess I got caught up in my own feelings that this image evoked. I should have spent more time critiquing the image. Like me, they are saying aloha to the day. Great impact for me, Karen. |

Hang ten, dude! You caught a great face on what looks to be a younger guy trying a difficult jump. Great job of stop action. I edited your image in PS CC using the subject selection rather than the background selection which isn't as good, IMO. I wanted to separate the boarder from the background. I selected the subject, which did a pretty good job, but missed a triangle between the legs, so I added that area then inverted the selection. I added a brightness/contrast layer and darkened the background. Then I added a warming filter layer (it is Florida, after all) then called it done. See how you think I did answering your questions. |

I think it is sharp, and as a study in light painting may have had value for you. Not what I would think could do well in competition. Maybe as an abstract. rotated 90 degrees and some radical colorization would add interest for me. |

We have friends from our camera club that made reservations to Kauai for September. Not sure how that will play out since Hawaii isn't too big on mainland visitors now. I've spent most of my time either on Oahu (Pearl Harbor and Kaneohe) or Maui (Wailea), and only two weeks each on the big island and Kauai. I feel sad that I'll never get back now.
Nice silhouettes. The sunset looks kind of muddy to me. Since there is always wet weather there, or on the way, I guess it just looks unusual to me. I probably made it too red. |

Similar to a previous entry. Color is terrific, as is the sharpness. Quite a bit to look at, but all that makes for a great "travel here" image. Looks pretty sharp to me also. |

I love that you saw this, and that there was sufficient light to capture it handheld. Green is not my favorite color, but I know these vases were extremely popular, and you captured the colors well. Your level is spot on, and I think I like the mini view rather than all the vases. It feels a little bit cramped on the right side, so I suggest a square crop, which also limits the curve between the vases to a "S". Good job of removing noise associated with a 1000 ISO. I doubt the D70s had a sensor that was quiet at that ISO.Today's camera's wouldn't even blink. I extended the dynamic range a little to let the highlights form a triangle to move your eye around the image. |

Thank you. I expanded my narrative and spelled out SD, for our "Worldwides." It is a little remote, even in this area, so there aren't many visitors. Either early in the morning or late at night gets beautiful light. |

I love the image and think the sharpness and colors are great. I think an 8x10 crop would work well, removing some of the busy looking water, and increasing the house a bit. It also balances the greens. You may wish to rename the image dropping "the house on a hill" part. It is there but IMO not large enough to warrant a part of the title. |

Another terrific scenic shot of the Alps. I think the color is exciting in the upper left and somewhat flat elsewhere. I think in order to add interest to the rest of your image, you should work the image more in post. Not even analog cameras take images that don't need post production. I think a simple crop improves the image. |

I really like the story, composition, colors, and sharpness. It all just belongs together and I am glad you at least have this image for memories. I just did a little more branch cleanup and used a couple of presets in Topaz at 20% to add just a bit of grunge. Beautiful work |

I would prefer to have more info on the image, but I think the rainbow is done well. I can't identify the item in the trench but it sort of lines up at the end of the rainbow. I'm pretty sure is isn't a pot o'gold. The camera could have been closer to the mound and made to appear closer to the rainbow. Whatever camera is available is the best. |

Dark and moody, and the blue probably helps create the cold feeling of being there. Reminds me a lot of the sine waves I worked with on my oscilloscope in the Navy. I have mixed feelings about the ice, and might try to tone that down a little, although I have no idea how in post. B&W works for me too. |

I really like your image and the story is great. Excellent composition and sharpness. There is a nice triangle formed by the lady, the platform and the foreground rock. I like to find a "red canoe" for my images too. We spend a lot of our time in Yellowstone NP at the thermals and enjoy the different color patterns immensely. Hopefully you were able to take some small detail shots while there. |

There wasn't any smoke. so I probably pulled the darks too much or pushed the sunlight too much or both, and burned the hills poorly to create depth. Good calls. |
