See above, since Judy asked the original question, I answered there. We are in Bandon, Oregon now, and so far I have been able to lift my big Fuji lenses and hope they are sharp. It is really cold and windy here, especially at the beaches, but this is my first real attempt at prolonged shooting. I need to regain my skills before the conference, and hopefully after my right eye gets it's new lens, my vision will be normal again.
We will be here through the eclipse, so hopefully it will be a clear day. |

Okay, I checked and it is an f5.6 aperture. In Manual exposure mode, which is what I use for my Fuji X camera's, you can set the lens aperture ring manually. Then if you set WB to Auto, and Shutter speed to "T", both are dials on the camera top deck. At that point all you have to do is focus, and dial in the shutter speed with the back wheel until your viewfinder shows you a properly exposed image. There is a meter displayed on the Rangefinder and EVF so all I do to under-expose for the reds, is dial the wheel back 2 stops. I really don't remember how I ended up with f5.6, but I guess since I was hand-holding on this rose, I wanted a fast shutter. I'm pretty happy it is sharp, although I'll admit I can't see any sharpness yet. I love the Fuji X system though. |

I'll try to remember when I comment on your images. My memory is much the same as the proverbial elephant. Never mind, I'll try to remember all the same. |

I think the composition is good. I like the diagonal relationship between the Lily and red leaf. I wish there were a third element to create a triangle, but we don't always get what we want. The colors are not to my liking, as stated before by others. The two vertical stems are kind of distracting to me. |

The mood is definitely there. I agree with Judy that it needs a little more punch go be competitive. I wonder whether you would have had a sharper image at 800 ISO. f29 should be pretty sharp. There appears to be some noise. I think I also like it in B&W. I used an HDR effect preset in Topaz to simulate what Judy did with her detail extractor. I think the crop is good. |

If you would like, I can post another version of this image that isn't over-processed. If you do, then I'll comment later. |

Gorgeous lady to photograph. Over-exposed in my opinion. Needed fill flash to balance the very bright background. The background is problematic for competition, but you can deal with that in many ways. Could be cropped to just the face, replace the background, etc. Eyes are nice and sharp( I think.)
I hope you obtained a model release, if you plan to use it in competition. We went to the Washington State Fair judging this weekend, and this subject came up with PSA former president, John Davis, about the model release issue. Even though taken in a public place, not all people end up happy with seeing their likeness used in a public display. He used the homeless as an example, which she is obviously not. Food for thought going forward for us all. |

I think this is my favorite image this month. Red and black can't be a better combination for me (Except during football season when my Buckeyes wear the scarlet and grey.) This image really pops, has interest with the people in silhouette and I think there is a perfect vignette holding us in the frame. In my opinion this is a simplified image that I struggle to see when I shoot. Just a thought but in digital, maybe a frame could define the base better. I think it looks bigger than it appears on my screen, if that makes any sense.

I also tried to ID the plant but my eyes aren't as good, and I couldn't zoom tight enough to get a good look at the actual flower. Your composition is good, and I think color is primarily the interest. Like 99% of my landscapes, there probably isn't enough interest. Really nice sky.
In case anyone doesn't know, the Nature division provides help with ID at https://psa-photo.org/index.php?identification-service. PSA members may email images of plants, animals, and other nature subjects for identification. Free as a member's benefit. |

I really love this image. You provided a great foreground, middle ground and background. It almost looks three dimensional to these old eyes. The light is perfect, color pops, and exposure is really well done. Getting low really makes the image stand out. Congratulations on your wedding. We wish you a long and happy marriage. |

I'm having a problem with my laptop, so I need to look at the metadata again to check my actual setting. I know I've gotten into the habit of using spot exposure, then stopping down 2 stops for reds. After blowing out reds for years I picked out that tip in my club. My comments usually lead me to confusion too. I think mirror-less camera's are just sharper, but I'll actually know when my eyes are able to focus again. |

I'll have to revisit my crop and see if I can make the symmetry more apparent. Thanks for your comments. |
