I didn't see the background as the ocean, but I can see how it would appear so to you. |

No dates have been posted yet, but probably in the 45-80 range, and fairly dry. |

Maybe I've been in too many waiting rooms the past couple of years, and that is now my artistic vision! I sure hope not. The blue in the background is just the way the light looked as the fog was rising up the butte, and the snow was reflecting the early morning sun. Those are all just rolling wheat fields. The 2019 conference will be in Spokane, so I'm sure there will be Palouse tours available. |

I think I agree with Karen that there just isn’t enough interest. For me, jealousy at the image of a warm sunny beach is enough to make me upchuck. Getting the grass sharp even at 1/6400 sec is really good. I tried a square crop. See if it adds anything for you. |

Since you have questioned the judging disparity on this image, I’ll try to give my opinion as a judge. I wouldn’t normally post an image that has already won in competition, (please see guidelines for DD above.) Your crop is wonderful and the person has distinctive features. Black and white is the perfect choice for older gentleman. I am including a warmer version just for an option. What I might downgrade on your image is that the eyes are the most important feature in portraits, and he appears to be squinting into the sun. There are catch-lights, but also a distracting horizontal line through his left eye. I assume you would add fill light, but maybe moving him away from the sun may have proved effective. Just playing devil’s advocate. As Jon said in his e-mail, judging is a crap shoot at best. I hope you stay with us. |

Nice and sharp Tam. You are getting really good images from your events. I wasn’t sure if I liked the floor ending before the frame, but I tried it cropped and I think it looks best as presented. It may just be me, but the floor looks slightly lower on the left. |

I also love to try to capture aspens, but I have to admit I am more drawn to the golden leaves in early fall. Your image is sharp, as always, and the color is good. In my opinion the rocks detract from the tree trunks, so I’m cropping them out and also the tree on the right. It seems to give me a pattern cropped this way. Just a suggestion for you to consider.
Congrats on your Southampton Nature successes. Not many US entries were accepted.

Your image is sharp and the colors are beautiful. The natural light quality is perfect for the scene. I don’t know if you laid out the pattern, but I enjoyed roaming around the image finding patterns. I added a radial to emphasize the spools I liked best, and which also enhanced the downward flow, in my opinion. You really are good at these shots. |
