What a beautiful portrait. Your patience paid off. I find he background color complements the butterfly and the strong yellow/orange does not visually take over. I like the composition (eye placment), the viewpoint, and how the light falls on the butterfly. |

You have captured the butterfly in an interesting pose displaying his colorfulwwings. The eye moves to areas of high contrast for example the bright white flower lower bottom and the dark area top camera right. I think the image might have stronger visual impact if you cropped off the top left corner and brushed on reduced highlights on the flower. See VF attached for your consideration where I have dodged and burned some areas and cropped tighter. |

Good catch. I find the complementary colors, raking light that creates texture and highlights the butterful, and your composition create strong visual impact. I like the soft diffuse background which complements the butterfly. Well done. |

I think the use of minimalism, simplicity, placing the butterfly on the rule of thirds crash point, and primary colors create visual impact. I find the line circled slightly distracting and you may wish to remove it. Also, I see the butterfly is slighly soft. You might consider selectively sharpening it more. |

To create a clear background, you have could move around and isolated a couple of flowers if that were possible, put a background behind the flower, or if you knew the person cut a small branch off and put them against a simple background. I was confronted with the same problem, bad background, wind, and asked my neighbor if I could clip a couple of flowers from her bush and I would send her the image. It was a win win situation. |
