Paul - good to experiment! I'm no good at this at all but I commend different approaches. I'm no good at interpreting images like this - my fault! |

Mary-Ann - I love this. I actually like the effect of the darker geese as a contrast to the foggy rest. Ideally, they should be pointing into rather than out of the image (I don't use photoshop so I couldn't do this!). A lovely image well processed. |

Vincent - very interesting shape here - it could be any size! You did well with bringing out the detail but it doesn't to me hold interest for long as an image. Mary-Ann's suggestions are interesting alternatives. |

Well seen Bob! Good interesting subject with variety of tones in the mono helps. Good street photography. I do wonder whether it is helpful to be able to read Fatface etc in the background. I would use negative clarity/texture to blur it all so the two subjects stand out better. |

Bob - nice detail here and as per other suggestions, lighting the dark areas between trees may provide more depth and further interest. An alternative (not instead) might be to crop all foliage out to just foxes on the wooded areas detail. |

Nice portrait of your granddaughter. I like the texture from surrounding areas and her hat breaking into the window square helps. Nice. |

Yes Bob, it's not easy to get the balance right re white waves - I was after low flying action and drama. I tried to reduce the whites intensity of the waves, but they go to grey if done too much. I've put the mono histogram in my reply above. |

Yes David, the Raw was overexposed. I had compensation set, but not enough. 2023 was my first session in regularly taking sea birds in flight - white ones on dark seas moving fast is a challenge. I compensate now by a greater amount (more than a stop). Here is the histogram of the final mono. |

Great capture Isaac. Envious of you having quality time with these magnificent creatures! Your speed choice was perfect to freeze his central face, while presenting the clear evidence of shaking. Great image. |

Maria - great image and fun title! Yes, I think the subject and story is right for a close up as you have given us. It was helpful all 3 were on the same plane so f4.5 achieved all 3 sharp for you. Nice result. |

What a treat Richard! I like you have presented an environmental image with the environment very much part of the image's story. I think you can still achieve this with a tighter rectangle but with the owl bigger in the frame (I'm in a Port Terminal writing this, so I'm unable to proffer a suggestion.
But, both luck you in taking this image in the very wintery weather you're having and well done in presenting the image for us. |

Lovely image Karen! Your timing with him looking left giving us the perfect view of its eye makes the image. Nice blurred background which you have I think helped further in PP, making the branches less obvious. Keep travelling! |

Thanks Karen - it's Fred Olsen (small 3 ship co, operating from UK only). We scenic cruise within Antarctica Peninsula too for a few days. Many long lenses on board! |

Maria - I'm afraid I have a different view if this - I find the orange tones in the water monopolise the scene, such that it detracts from the duck. It's perhaps not helped by the fact that we see so much seaweed and other 'things' floating on our oceans, that my first thoughts are not of tree reflections. Sorry Maria! |

Cindy - very interesting to hear of your experiences in the Oceans and how you address the challenges. This picture was taken on our first such cruise and we are on our third one now after that - and still learning! I'll post something new from the oceans next month. |
