Thank you - and I agree that the wider crop conveys a bigger story. |

This works very well Paul. We are drawn to the shapes and textures of the flowers. Your silhouette adds to this. I am not distracted by the light coming through the fence panels (easy to darken them a bit) - but I am in 2 minds by the 2 buds. Left in they provide more detail to examine, but adds another shape which in some way the image does not need. It's still interesting as is! |

What a truly lovely study of 2 wild horses Mary Ann! So much detail on them telling us their hard outdoor existence. The landscape is there to help the story, but softened just right. I agree that putting them in centre through cropping from the left would further emphasise the focus on them. Lovely! |

Vincent - love it! Again this is perfect as a mono - giving us every opportunity to enjoy looking round all the architectural detail without being distracted by colour information. Impressive that you were able to take this with no people in it!
I find the point about not correcting distortion interesting. In this case I don't think you could anyway without losing the important arched ceiling. |

Wow, Paul this is such a class example of why mono can be so much better than colour - it would be perfect in text books on teaching mono! We can no focus on the lines, shapes that light….. Wonderful. I have offered a cropped version in a reply to Bob for interest. I think I prefer the left frame not being there. |

Bob - here is a crop with no door (maintaining the door as centre). What do you think? |

Many thanks Bob. I find your crop suggestion interesting - here is one possibility (without taking time to tidy up an edge in removing a cut-off bird). There were many bird species there, including pelicans at one stage. |

Many thanks for your detailed analysis Vincent. It was an amazing session - one which the scene was the end of. The scene of the men bring the fish in over many trips with the full baskets lasted over 1/2 an hour. |

Hello Bob. Looking at your bio, you clearly are v experienced.
This is a nice mono abstract. The story is clearly rocks in a fast moving stream. Having looked at your image for some time, my eyes keep moving to the large expanse of white flowing water and ignoring the rocks. I thus wonder whether you need so much of the stream. You may feel the dark area at the top of the image to close the top off. But here is an alternative tighter crop. |

David - this was skilfully taken: butterflies in flight is far from easy having experimented a few times. I think this works as a mono because it is captured with a clean background. I think the vegetation on the right are needed as that is showing us what he's about to land on and needs to be materially in focussed. I don't think you need so much at the top - you could see how you like it cropped down enough to remove the top purple flower. Nice. |

This image is made so good by your timing, taking it just at it looks at you with tongue out. Well done Isaac! The branch and tail leading from the bottom left makes for perfect composition. Thank you for the story behind the monkey too. |

Maria - this is lovely! You've created a lovely image out of quite a fussy background skilfully. I'm amazed so much is sharp with a 4.5 setting. It looks great as it is - but wonder if the Monarch would pop more if you lighten the shadows a tad for just it. Just a suggestion to try. |

Richard - what a great idea to crop it like that - and such a great image! It's pin sharp and the colours are so effective. An image I would love to achieve. |

Maria - this is just so sharp and, yes amazing you achieved this hand held at 1/100 so close to the subject. I do find the amount of the grass (or whatever it is) in the frame is distracting. As a suggestion - your subject is so sharp it will be able to cope with cropping to something like this. |

Cindy this is a great action shot - skilfully exposed. I assume you were taking a number of shots per second - this one is your reward for that. Lovely lighting too and PP just right. Great image. |

Maria - I agree with Jerry re your crop. I imagine you wither to retain the brown leaves, but that leaves the birds stand v small in the frame. Here's a suggested crop. Your pic is good and your camera has enough pixels to achieve a significant crop. |

Sunday - a well taken shot of this pair and I like you PP work. There is much detail in the birds feathers and the 2 eyes really pop. It's nice as it is, but you could see if making the green foliage softer (perhaps by negative Clarity/Texture) - may make the birds stand out more. I do wish there was a little more water below their legs visible - but that's nitpicking. |
