72 Sep 23 Comment Nice put together image Isaac of an interesting drop of elephants. I always like big family groups like that, with many different ages. Impressive tusks on a couple of them and as others have said, the crocs certainly add interest and tension.

Well done in being picked up by Tom to help others over their travels: I'm sure you'll add value in respect to many wildlife destinations. I've enjoyed advising a couple of travellers since joining the fold a few months ago.

72 Sep 23 Comment Marie, have you used Topaz Photo A1? Assuming you captured it in Raw, that allows you to process and crop the image before doing any Lightroom work and this may help to sharpen more of your beautiful jays better.

In case you haven't used Photo A1 in this way, it's accessed via Lightroom, File > Plug in extras. Topaz engineers are now working almost exclusively on this product: the older Sharpen etc will eventually die (or not supported).

72 Sep 23 Comment Barbara, thank you for explaining the explanation for this pair and I really hope institutions like this continue to survive. Their work is so important. Your tight crop works and you timed your image image perfectly showing nice interaction. Thank you for sharing. Sep 11th
72 Sep 23 Comment I recall you presenting this form of art before and I love this version. Very skilful and successful. The backlight side feathers adds to your art. Lovely. Must have taken time to create. Thank you for showing us! Sep 11th
72 Sep 23 Comment Maria, you obviously thought how best to present your well captured frog and I feel giving it space really works. It is easier to comprehend its scale, while all its details are clearly visible and not made better by enlarging. Well done. Sep 11th
72 Sep 23 Comment Bruce, this is a striking shot of your eagle, particularly with it on a perfect diagonal with it looking the right way to make the image more striking, while covering power while gliding. Huge wingspan! Sep 11th

91 Sep 23 Comment Cindy, they are lovely birds: I've seen them in Costa Rica and always with their wings open like yours here, drying its wings. We want to visit the Pananals, our trip was Covid cancelled.

Their wings I think are thick, so not much light will come through them when backlight - I thus agree with your high contrast approach. Your 2nd version retains this while maintaining a believable amount of light on our side. It also keeps the viewer's attention on the lighter head and edges nicely.

As to your question, I like the green background as this is an environment image. I don't find it distracting and under these circumstances, I play with negative use of white, texture and clarity sliders to keep the background visible, while trying to leave it saying 'don't look at me'!

Lovely image.

91 Sep 23 Comment Sunat, I wouldn't beat yourself up too much about the bird's butt! you have shown us his head and eye clearly and we get a good feel for the bird in its environment. I like your crop and of course the red legs plus reflection. Sep 11th
91 Sep 23 Comment Bruce, this is a lovely image - very clear what it is doing and good detail on the feathers. Love the wing position and you made a good (and interesting) decision in your crop. Sep 11th
91 Sep 23 Comment Jerry, you have created a striking image here with your PP work. You captured it well with interesting feather detail and movement helping to make it clear what it is doing. To me, it looks striking, yes, but is no longer believable as what the bird looked like when taken. I find it just a tad too punchy, particularly its eye. This I know is personal preference. Sep 11th
91 Sep 23 Comment Marge, this is a lovely well timed image: it's the lighting which really helps and the expressions captured are wonderful. two suggestions:

~ Your birds are tall in the image and as such, I would agree with others that a portrait shaped output would sit better on the viewers' eye.

~ you could consider selectively lightening the shadows of the right bird's head, bottom half thereof and neck. I think this would help.

Well captured image Marge.

91 Sep 23 Comment Steve - nice picture in my opinion. Your crop was sensible and I like the hummer's position in the frame. Your camera settings for hummingbirds looks good - I think it is a personal preference issue whether the speed should be enough for total wing sharpness, or a tad lower to have some movement. Your background is good - you are so lucky to have birds such as these at home! I have been lucky (for one living in UK) to have been to Costa Rica 3 times and have a good stock of hummer birds - I am bound to bore this group sometime with one.

It is my preference to have the wings behind the head rather than in front. I would also prefer to have a bigger proportion of the body sharper - you have his head nice. Another suggesting is to lighten the shadows slightly of the green/orange area of his head - you may find the colours 'pop' more.

A final suggestion is when you wish to take pictures of your private supply of hummers to get hold of a branch of a flower that has nectar and fix it somewhere for them to enjoy. This makes for a more interesting final image vs one flying in space IMO. This is one example here.

91 Sep 23 Reply Thanks Steve - yes I was on burst mode - this was the only clean image from the set! Happy with it though. Thanks for your comments. Sep 4th
91 Sep 23 Comment For interest, I add the image taken last week of an Inca Tern within the netted area mentioned above. Sep 2nd
