Bruce - just in time this month after coming back on Friday from a 3 week Iceland/Norway cruise.
There is just enough of the yellow eyes showing to make this image work. You have caught the Owl in just the pose the viewer can imagine it looking like as it searches for prey - that's why it works so well. The background is also perfect.
Thank you for the bulletin board post - looking at what I have seen so far, they were looking for images with interesting and different stories and I was lucky to have such a one which had got a Gold. Have we seen your Gold image(s)? |

Maria - hope you enjoy the monthly dialog. I've learnt much over 3 or 4 years and continue to enjoy each month.
You timed this shot well, with your bird showing some attitude. Obviously if you want a story from the image, the two birds would have had to be closer, so this is where Isaac's crop and extra pp results I think, in a more interesting end result. This shows off more of its colours and the tighter crop gives more detail. Your Sony camera had enough pixel horsepower to leave a sharp image after an aggressive crop (and this is with the small files we have to use for internet use. |

I always enjoy your underwater images - My wife and I have never done it, but our daughter continues annual trips over 20 years. I prefer your crop, giving space to all you captured (focus of the image isn't just the Lion Fish. Your pp looks excellent to me. Lovely end result. |

Three is always a helpful number! Your use of flash has been very effective (it's always very shady under roof overhangs and your flash method has generated no bright areas or shadows. Good detail in the mud too. Nice shot. |

Maria, behavioural shots are always interesting and this is no exception. I agree with Isaac's lightening of the shadows work -this is so often a good thing to do, but I never seem to think of it early enough! Nice image. |

Isaac, it's your low position which helps to make this image engaging. That and your timing in having some space between 2 and 3. Of course they are sharp and well defined. |
