Albert, this works very well in mono - I'm sure the brown ground wouldn't have looked well against the B&W birds. Your timing was perfect, giving your image real emotion.
The image is very contrasty which seems consistent with the strong shadows, but this has resulted in the right part of the left one's face being very dark with little detail visible. Some selective shadow lightening might add some detail here.
But a lovely image. |

Jen, I love this in many respects! First it has a good range of colours and you have provided good detail within the inter dark rock formations.
But the vastness of the landscape is the core message and any changes you may choose to do should not detract from this.
The people add scale and interest (as well as adding some curiosity!) and I don't mind them centrally because they are small in the frame.
I wonder whether using your Lr grad with dehase will add some detail to the sky (but you can erase the shape of the dark peak from your linear grad mask). I like the shapes of the top of your image. But I get a tad confused at the bottom and wonder if the bottom bank adds anything to the story.
It's an image which makes me want to be there! |

Thanks Albert - I agree 100%!
I have adjusted contrast here, also darkening the nose/mouth area of the little one and cropped a tad from the top, but not as much as Kirsti suggested. |

Yes and good and clean image showing good storytelling of the dogs and as Randy says, it's amazing how they can work well together as a group (probably the shill of the human leader to pair them correctly).
Interesting images Isaac, thank you. |

This works very well and you have a very interesting technique for macro shots, using the pixel horsepower of you FF camera. You've taken an insect which is tiny in the frame and heavily cropped it with result that most of the body is acceptably sharp. Most photographers use macro lenses to capture the insect filling most of the frame, then really struggle with DOF!
Sorry, stating the obvious I know, but it's an interesting technique!
Yes, there are extreme closeup images of the eyes which are spectacular and I'm wondering whether if you start with a frame-filling shot and the crop in, whether you'll end up with a sharp result of say just the head! I don't see why not!
Your shot is lovely, with a very clean crisp presentation.

Walt, you've got many impressive images from Brodie. The greens and wrinkled wallpaper work very well here with lots of interest across the image.
My only doubt is with the cooker on the left adds a somewhat distorted view. It may me stronger cropped excluding the cooker and window, with the left side finishing with the axes. Just a suggestion Walt. |

Wow Mary! You've given us 2 treats.
Your main image is made by the limited colour pallet with the dark clouds, with the central break between the fields…lovely and developed with skill.
I actually prefer your bonus image! Such lovely landscape beautifully captured and processed.
Thank you Mary for sharing these, I really enjoyed them. |

Gosh, Randy I'm so envious of you where you live and having Hummingbird feeders at home! My only experience of photographing them has been in Costa Rica, where so many of the privately owned small hotels have planted around their buildings to attract many birds - so up before breakfast! As you say, they move so quickly and are challenging to get clean images.
Love yours! I too prefer your second image with the more helpful background, but the feet of your main image captured so cleanly is so unusual, they really draw the eye. You are so lucky to be able to photograph these amazing birds at home. |

A lovely image Bruce! You timed the shot perfectly, with lovely interaction between the two, but also the mother's face clear from the cub's paw looking straight at you, plus having a foot off the ground, all adds to the charm of your image. The small size of the cub seems to be emphasised by the way it's leaning up to nuzzle it's mother.
Very envious! One day, we'll get to Alaska! My ideal is to have a single trip that includes bears, salmon leaping and eagles! Oh, and great landscape to photograph too! |
