Hi Jen. To me this shows very well the vastness of the landscape and that's the main story. It should thus be your panoramic shape. Lightening the foreground certainly will help and Albert's point (if I am understanding him correctly) of making the line in the landscape that flows left to right will help take the eye further in that direction. Darkening or adding texture/contrast locally could work to help that lateral flow more.
Your image certainly makes me wish I was there! |

Yes Albert a very dramatic set of clouds and I'm not surprised they take up a high proportion of the image. I admit, I have much to lear about clouds and appreciating them better.
But my eye went first to the nicely lit row of trees which stand out very well. I'm then left wondering about the central area and struggle to fully understand (may be my iPad which I have to use because of travelling). Could that area have more detail applied? Very interesting image though Albert. Thank you |

This is an interesting (and unusual composition). I think the man is the core subject of interest. You have captured him well, but do wonder if more texture/contrast around his eyes would add to his character.
The lady is an important secondary role, but the headwear isn't to me right in either version. Main one is saying 'look at me', while the 2nd one adds to the dark tones too much.
Do you need all the space above her head? Are you able to make her scarf and skirt a lighter shade, still enough to contrast with the man, but not the darkest part of the image? |

Ed, your sky is fabulous and the landscape simple with just the centrally positioned river. As presented, the landscape is dark, such that opens attention is principally on the sky.
A lighter landscape would I think give the viewer more to enjoy. If you do this, I think you should look again at the width of your border; at the moment, I think it detracts a tad. Thank you for posting Ed.

I think you are right Ed and I will crop the left guy out. I'll also see if I can suppress the people etc beyond the 2 main characters to focus the attention more on them. Thanks for your comments Ed. |

I do think that improves it Ed. The lighter areas by the river are now clearer, making the image to be more than just the fab sky. |

A well composed shot that's perfect for mono, with so much detail and shades. The lead in line of the left bank works perfectly. There seems to be no variation in the lightness from within the Windows, which is interesting, but helps to focus the eye on the shape and textures. And no people! I think I know where this is and there was always people around when I was there! Nice image Colin. |

Thank Issac. I do agree that a tad more space would help and I have prob rotated the pair too much. So I will relook at this, but if I wish to use it in Nature Salons, I can't remove items. Compromise time! |

Bruce, what a back yard you must have! And to have lovely birds visiting! The portrait crop helps and this follows the shape of the perch well. I like it's stance: adds character. |

This is a lovely family of mother and cub, just so sharp and detailed. Yes, the hue does look strange, with the background leaves unnecessarily yellow too. The viewer is left wondering what's so interesting for them, but that's part of the mystery which adds to your image.
Where was this taken? Just interested where bears are tagged and monitored. |

Hi Mary. I don't know this area and I'm not sure if that's a disadvantage. Being honest, I find it difficult to appreciate the scale of what we are seeing. Judging by the trees, not many "hundreds of feet" as I have witnessed near Page.
I like your PP, which has made the scene clear with good detail. I'm just left a tad numb because I feel I should be impressed by the cliffs, but the upward view makes their appreciation difficult for me. |

A lovely image Walt and I will go with your wider crop in this instance vs the tighter one of Isaac. I actually like seeing that your focus is from a wider scene, indicating scale of the area covered by the orange poppies.
Your image works despite the cornflower selected looks impact (not fully round). You were right to remove a distracting stem to the right.
Thank you for posting. |

A lovely image Marie and well done with your success with it. We are getting used to the amazing cropping horse-power of your camera.
Pictorially, I can't decide which amount of vignette I prefer, but the rule of thumb for Nature entries is that the viewer should be able to notice the vignette (or at least be at a level which makes it obvious there is one).
Either way, you captured a lovely image! |

Gosh, lucky you to a) go on an Arctic cruise and b) seeing such a good siting of a cub and mother doing something interesting. That type of cruise is on our targeting list for the future.
I love the timing of your main shot with the cub looking with interest at what's coming out of the water, perhaps hoping for something to eat! Your original 2 is also a story telling image.
Thank you for sharing the 3 images and reminding me to plan ahead when these sort of trips are on the cards again. |
