Jack. Sorry for being so late!
A minimalistic image -but one that has got a lot of detail given the time to sit, look and enjoy. The more I look, the more I see and that makes it an unusual but rewarding image.
Sorry this is your last of this group! I've learnt so much from you! |

Colin. So sorry to be writing this on the last day of the month!
What a great portrait. You have a winner here. The mood is gritty and well presented (not too much contrast which I see too often).
My only suggestions are whether one needs to see his trouser or shorts. Would excluding them kep the viewer enjoying the 'meet' of the image better? Not wrong to keep as is! |

Gosh how innovative! I'm so sorry to be late here!
I knew where this was before reading your text - well it was only 53 weeks ago we were there, close to Barcelona cathedral.
I love the concept. I like in particular the 2 close chaps with the light above them. But I have played with a crop and hopefully my suggestion will be attached her, which is close to a square with the to edge stopping where the left shadow line below the light being in the top left corner and a small crop from the right to get rid of the white area in the top right. This gets rid of the light which is a pity, but I find this a more focussed view. |

Welcome to this group Kristi! Sorry I'm writing this at the last minute.
When I looked at your original here ahead of looking at the comments, I felt (and still do) that this is an image about winter in a commercial environment where life has to continue snow, or no snow. So to me the the piles of snow is just as important as the boat. I find the car on the extreme left as part of that story.
But I didn't and don't like the barrier to the right and all the sky. So I prefer your letterbox version, possible with the car returned. I enjoy seeing better in this image the two piles of snow,
This is an8mage where there is no right answer! Thank you for posting an image that got us all thinking, even if it's differently! |

I think you have a very nice subject here for a mono image and the white flowers makes a big difference to other ruined boat images on a shore or similar.
I believe the amount of land below the boat is making the boat (key interest) appear more near the top of the image. I suggest you try the following...
- crop from the bottom so you don't have much 'just grass' front right
- crop a little from the right to stop the boat being quite so central
- I think you may now find you only need to add a little to the top to get the balance better.
Did you try this as a 'normal' B&W? If you revert to this, with contrast added locally for the boat only, you may find it stands out better against or with the white flowers.
As said, I'm sure you have a very interesting image here Jen |

Well seen Albert! So much detail and very well handled in pp. I love the evenness on the light areas, which are there to show off the texture and shapes and to me, it really helps that these are so even. Yes, good title. |

To me Marie, the issue is not the sky, it's the very narrow field of view of a flat 'landscape'. A more interesting view may be a heavily cropped one just covering the right 2/3, starting from the left, just to the right of the dark area by the water edge - to force the eye down the opening more. The left 1/3 as now doesn't contribute much. |

I'm afraid I have a different view of this Isaac! I love the trees and all non sky/water areas, but I find the water detail and clouds so distracting, they take away the enjoyment of the location.
If the clouds (both original and reflection) were not so dark, leaving detail in different shades of white and light grey, I feel this would return the rightful focus of the image to the trees etc.
I love your Original 2 image and by quite a margin, prefer this to the main image. It tells the story of the area perfectly to me.
Sorry if I'm alone here! |

Hi Marie. I too love 'the cold', being in a snowing environment if a great experience.
I am not sure this image works for me I'm afraid. I like the foreground but I find it difficult to see and understand the detail above that. The area is so flat. I then find the narrow area of sea below the horizon distracting.
Sorry, Marie, just being honest. |

Walt. A lovely close up! I love the colours and the droplets really add to the image.
Isaac has created a different version. Whilst this removes lighter parts, it also removes the complimentary colours that I feel adds interest to the image as a whole. I don't find your lighter areas hugely distracting - Perhaps a slight tone down of the whites around the core flower may be a middle ground. |

Hi Bruce. Yes, you have both captured and given us an image which shows the elk in cold conditions. Having said that, the blueish tree at the rear just above his nose really distracts and Isaac has done an excellent joy of dealing with that problem!
Great capture! |

Randy, I'm rather late in offering my congratulations in getting this great image on the front of this month's Journal! I just opened it and recognised you name on the front. Huge honour for you. I will enjoy your article later.
I absolutely love how your image shows off how vast and strong looking these can be. Great capture and PP work. |

Huge thanks Isaac for taking the trouble to do all this! I've replicated what you've done in Lightroom and agree with you over your changes. |
