Thanks Ed - I agree that I too prefer Lance's version and have tried to update my master file to close to his and have thanked him too. |

Lance - Huge thanks for taking the trouble to do all this! You are right, your work has given I think more tones across the original colours which I like. This is why I love these Groups: I'm learning so much! I have changed my "master' following your recommendation - thank you! |

I love the wintery feel of this John. Lovely. My eye keeps going to the extreme right and I do wonder whether a slightly tighter crop as here keeps the viewer's attention on the lovely shapes you have in the image. Must be a rare event! |

I like this Jen. I don't mind the graffiti and I was wondering if there should be something in the distance, but on reflection, I like the mystery of where the track ends.
I hope to attach a letterbox shape to totally remove the sky as I believe the top 1/3 is unnecessary. What is left is your old bridge and that should be the focus. It may be worth toning down the bright end panels.
Thanks for posting Jen.....ps my iPad edit created too big a file...so no pic attached! Sorry.

Hi Ed. I like the concept of this study and there is no reason at all why up to date phones can't be used for many subjects now! I've just updated to 12 Max (from 6!).
It's sharp and let well, so all those aspects work for me. Yes, I can't see the advantage of any vignette that is "in your face* and I agree with John, I think we should ideally see the whole of the plane to the right. I worry less about the part beyond the 2 sticks, but probably to have these as a border would be best.
Very interesting exercise - thanks for posting Ed. |

No it's not Jack, but it is close to being! It's a great view with very interesting lines and textures. So my only question is whether that central site are could be toned down a tad more?
I love the way one starts bottom left (or close) and move in an S shape to top right, with the fabulous detail on the right. Great image! |

Thanks Jack. No, it was hand held. In this instance the speed was 1/1000 - plenty fast enough. But the IS is so good now v low speeds are possible for still subjects. My set up has over 6 stops of IS - so I find I can take landscapes at 1 second if I hold my breath! |

Hi Stan - thank you for your helpful comments on my mono image this month. You are so lucky to live in such an interesting part of your Country: great variety not far away! To me, the image works so well in mono and your viewpoint is perfect to show the excitement the artist was hoping would be seen. It also shows the benefit of us having reasonable cameras as a phone nowadays! |

V interesting Randy. I have to admit that I prefer to above PS version vs the top left Lrm one on your site - the graduation around the top is certainly smoother. And the top right one is weird!
Frustrating for me as I simply will not use PS, so I'm limited to what I can get Lrm to achieve. |

Lovely capture Isaac! Great story telling with a very helpful triangle with the carcass and youngster, helped by the rock to the right. There is so much going on to help the story. I like the muted colours: helps to take the viewer "there".
I too hope to go on a trip there from UK - still not cheap, but what an experience! |

Marie - this works as a mono and there are very interesting shapes. Two points....
- I find the log on the left with the round hole is a block to a smooth transition into the image
- I think more contrast is needed; I'm note sure the soft approach helps, but I accept this is a personal view.
Good to experiment Marie and thank you for posting. |

Mary - I love this as an unusual art-form. Very effective with the circular pattern of the white feather edges. It's good to do something different! I wouldn't have the skills for this!
Your birds stands out a tad stronger in your second version
I've taken humming birds during visits to Costa Rica, which we love - never easy and so often, they are more available early and late, so ISO often is an issue.
I really enjoyed admiring your work of art Mary! |

I love this! It's a very effective style to totally blackout to surrounding area for a wind life portrait and I think it works particularly well here with a materially grey animal! A great study. I wouldn't change anything!
An alternative could be to add a minor grey border to your image.
As to the ability of achieving this in Lightroom, I suspect it depends on the relative colours for each image - the masking capabilities with the radial brush (colour or luminance) are very good now - I'm still learning how to use them! |

Great image Bruce and so topical for me as last Tuesday our camera club was treated to a lecture by a UK award winning pro who focuses on seascapes and her strategy seems very similar to yours in therms of using a long lens and capturing a vast number of shots. FYI - https://rachaeltalibart.com/.
Her images are mostly mono, but I love the colours in your waves here and the birds help to give scale to the scene. Gosh, you've your time cut out to review and develop your images!
Do you need to very top of the foreground wave: I'd be inclined to crop it out. Lovely shot. |
