Albert - I lovely landscape! The detail in the snow/ice is amazing! It cries out to the viewer 'I bet you want to come here!'
We went there 12 years ago, but chose to do a half-day hike up the glacier - in typical NZ way, the fee included crampons etc! I guess you were allowed to walk around a bit after the helicopter flight. |

Wow Ed, many thanks for your kind comments! Here is a tight square crop in colour, which is what I hope is what you asked for. I took the B&W file and after returning it to colour, I desaturated the bright areas to her left and right. Kind regards |

Hello Ed!
I like the concept here and there is no doubt that it is stronger in B&W.The wings make a striking pose.
But my eyes get lost in the neck/body area, which is in shadow and doesn't appear to be as sharp as the bottom area.

Hello Don!
I like this. Arty! The focus stacking has given you a very sharp image - so much detail! Questions......
~ does the shadow on the left leaf detract? Nothing you can do about this, but I do wonder ether a version with no shadow would look even more surreal?
~ I think I would loose the branch on the left, to make it more of an art form.
~ would the image be even stronger if the fruit part was darker than the leaf tones? May be worth trying.
~ I suggest you slightly tome down the very bright bottom right and top right parts of the leaves, to stop the eye being drawn to these areas.
Sorry for a list - but I think this is a really nice image! |

Hello John!
I like this industrial image and your development of it. I like the tonal range. I have a liking for reading images from the left and I have thus given you a flipped version for you to consider and I have cropped a little bit of the wall so there is less area with no interest in (accepting that this makes the side pipe go). What do you think? |

Jen, Hello!
I like your image here - it's very interesting!
The image attached here has been flipped (nothing else) and ask whether this improves it. I think it is easier to read so one starts bottom left and sort of ends with the weights, rather than going straight to them
I'm very new to B&W, so again I may be 'wrong', but I question whether the whole of the structural parts are too contrasty, with very little grey. Do you think the mass of the structure would be less dominating if there was less black, more grey?
Just suggestions! |

Jack - I thought I would start reviewing early and ahead of others and I am fearful in so doing! I feel I have a lot to learn as what makes a good B/W image.
I'm going to be saying the following a few times for this round - my eye likes to start reading an image from bottom left ideally - so I attach here a flipped version and I find the image is more logical, going up and around the square. I prefer this, but maybe alone. I like the differences in the tiles and this works well. I find I'm asking myself why there isn't more roof at the top as I feel there isn't quite enough to make the concept work well enough.

Everyone who goes to Ha Long Bay loves it (despite the hundreds of other crafts of all sizes), but not many of us come away with such a lovely image Isaac. You have done well to have the cruise boats there, but very subdued and the inclusion of the two fishing/trade craft adds to the picture.
I loved the pre-dawn period above all else of our short cruise - completely magical.
Dehaze slider is very useful under these sort of conditions (a lot in Asia), but I find it challenging gauging the amount as too much is no good! |

Mary, the Romanian churches are amazingly varied - certainly the ones we saw in the Mountain parts we say last January, particularly in Sibiu. Where was this taken? Very colourful and great use of you fully wide lens, showing so much of it. As has been discussed, bright windows are a pain, but your image is still very enjoyable to view, thank you for sharing. |

Abhijeet, this is the sort of picture that would look fantastic framed on a wall. We taken and developed. My only suggestion is to deal with the small light bit of grass lower left - it just catches my eye. |

Bruce, a truly lovely image! The 4 pop from the screen and yes Walt's treatment has improved an already excellent image. There is certainly a lot of skill in this group! |

Walt, this is a lovely image, restful on the eye and I think a lot of skill was employed in PP to achieve it. The crop is better, but I am less convinced about lightening the foreground - I think it's good the wild flowers are there, but not for them to steal the show.
I have had a halo effect on some of my images after darkening the sky. There is I think some light just above the mountain in the original, but PP does seem to emphasise it. Lovely image. |

Thanks Isaac - Yes, it is a busy image...but for mono exhibitions (rather than Nature), I still like it.
The lack of sharpness point is interesting, as the original image is sharp, other than the rear animals. I agree with you that the one here isn't!
This was taken with my original Olympus Camera which was just 16Mb and as cropped here, 6.1Mb. This is one of the constraints of Micro 4/3 systems.
It was also taken with my old Panasonic 100-300mm lens fully zoomed out (600 eqiv) - Olympus's Pro glass are now very good and with their converters, there should be less need to crop - as well as the newer cameras 20Mb.
Anyway, here is a version of the same image used for entering int a Mono Salon - on my screen its 'acceptably' sharp. But I will see how I get on in the salon! |
