That's very interesting Isaac! Yes, flipping it, so the lead in line of the chest really does help....And I have learnt more about the power of Clarity! Thank you! I use clarity quite a lot, but not identified its power so much for situations like this. I have adopted your suggestions on my original within Lightroom and will certainly use this from now on! Thank you again. |

Agreed! Lovely shot! I particularly like the 2 bird's wings are in different positions - the shot seems more interesting as a result. I was told one needs odd numbers of 'things' - this proves that even numbers work well! |

Wow - a lovely shot and I agree that the central position of the core part works very well.
My only question is wether one needs as much of the sides, particularly the right - which is quite dark. I have cropped it here to the first tree to the right to use it as a stopper, but taken less off the left as the bank adds much interest.
Just a suggestion! |

You clearly like taking arty images that are different! I think this works.
My only question is whether there needs to be something sharp? There is clearly enough visible to understand what the subject matter is, so the answer to my question could be No. I would guess this type of image should be taken at differing shutter speeds and choose what works best. |

Bee Eaters are lovely! I love the sympathetic background to its core colouring. You used a very fast shutter speed which obviously helped the sharpness. I like the crop leaving some empty space for the bird to look into. |

I love the position of the bird in the cropped image and those eyes!! Impressive that such a large crop was possible - but I think that camera has a great sensor! Lovely light on the wings too. |

Many thanks Mary. I am not hugely experienced in wildlife photography - 4 or 5 years travelling to Africa/Costa Rica and zoo locally - but I have realised that there is a "sameness" of most Camera Club wildlife images and I thus want to try and do something different. |

Lovely image. Very interesting that there is so much detail in the chest - you clearly originally exposed for that and then adjusted other areas, particularly the grass which has turned out great. Do you spot meter for this type of shot, or exposure compensation where necessary? There is very useful detail in the sky, with arguably unusual (for Icrland) amount of blue in it!
I've been to Iceland twice - it's not that far for us (!), but my focus has been landscapes both times. I know lots who have been for birds. |

Thanks Walt. I accept the fact that there is a good chunk of the zebra's neck on the right which is out of focus and thus could be deemed distracting. Rightly or wrongly I felt the lead in line of the underside helped sufficiently to countermand this. As an alternative, here is a square crop - what do you think here?
As to reintroducing more of the left as a potential counter balance and then making the colour consistent, doesn't add anything. It would be just "negative space" which can add value I think to an image, but not here. It's all about the Whiskers and the light thereon. |
