Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
67 Apr 19 Comment Larry, You are a dedicated photographer indeed! This is a wonderful photo. I love the greens, the silky white waterfall and that you left some of the upper falls in the image to make the viewer want to see more. I too noticed the log at the top and had to zoom in to see what it was. It does distract from the falls. When I first looked at the image I wondered how high these falls are. I thought perhaps they could have been much smaller since there's not an easy way to judge. The original image does give a better idea of the size. Hope to see this image in a magazine sometime! And be safe out there! Apr 9th
67 Apr 19 Comment You were able to bring up the colors in the herons and the storks nicely. The storks serve at least one purpose and that is to lead the viewer's eye to the herons. Since I've never seen storks, I found them very interesting. I'm glad you also took out the insects. I love the action happening in the heron nest. I've watched this behavior many times here in PA and it is wonderful to photograph. Great shot considering the limited time you had there. Sounds like a place I need to visit. Apr 9th
67 Apr 19 Reply Larry, I always appreciate your comments. I'm learning lots in this group. I'm looking forward to getting the Nikon TC (I always go with Nikon) which will eliminate some of my frustration with being unable to get close enough. Hopefully I can learn to use it handheld. I think in brighter situations it would work well. Your crop is excellent. What software did you use to take out the tree limb? Also, as I mentioned to Michael, I need to let go of some of the standards in my camera club. The grass in the foreground and even the sand trap with your work might be considered a distraction by some. Tough competition! Apr 9th
67 Apr 19 Reply Wayne, Thanks for your comments! This was one of the few shots I got where the bird's head was turned slightly toward me and I like the ruffled feathers around his neck. I'm trying to learn more about taking photos of birds in flight, and with that in mind and the bright light in Aruba, I had the shutter speed high. I did catch some in flight but still need lots more practice. I love Topaz, especially for very creative work, but also to help improve other photos. Apr 9th
67 Apr 19 Reply Michael, you're right on everything! I have to admit I've been a bit distracted lately so didn't give this my best attention. (My son gets married next month, and he and my husband are running the Boston Marathon on Monday!). I worked at getting better backgrounds but the birds were very timid. I often look at images the way I've been trained in my camera club. The white sand trap and branch would have definitely pulled down my score in competition and I cropped tight as a result. I worked on taking out the branch but could not get it done to my satisfaction. Larry did a great job at taking the branch out. I also darkened the sand trap. I have to say that there was a bit more detail in the feathers in the copy on my computer. Thanks for your input! Apr 9th
67 Apr 19 Comment Michael, this is an amazing photo! The bird and lizard are sharp and the color around the eye drew my attention right away. Who knew roadrunners were so beautiful? Excellent reflexes and quick thinking paid of big time with this shot. The background is light but I think it makes the bird stand out. It's great that he stopped in the shade for you! Apr 5th
