I've been experimenting with auto ISO and have had some good results. I'm working to keep the highlights from being over exposed especially when it's sunny - never easy! Thanks for your encouragement to try something different! |

Wayne, Thanks for your insight on toning down the green leaves in front which was also mentioned by others. So I will do that before I enter it into my camera club's competition. Yeah, the lizards were pretty used to tourists so they were an interesting photo op. We did get to the beach and loved it. What a great island! |

Richard, Thanks for your kind comments. I've been working on auto ISO too and find it challenging but it has produced some good results. The problem I have is over exposed highlights. Still working on that. |

Thanks for your helpful comments. I always enter these photos in my camera club's monthly competitions after I've heard from so many great photographers like yourself! |

The cormorants there are much prettier than the ones I see on the US East Coast! You caught them in 2 very different but natural poses displaying their daily activity of preening. The log's texture and size make it a perfect place to photograph them. I agree that the background could be darkened some but only enough to still allow the dark birds to stand out. A vignette would also serve to keep the viewer's eye in the photo longer. A very nice photo taken from a moving boat with a hand held camera! |

Herons are great subject matter. They can almost do no wrong! This is a tender scene with young chicks and an attentive parent. Great angle showing the side of the wing and feathers, the underside of the curved neck and sharp eye. The fuzzy heads of the chicks are a bit bright but the rest of the photo is exposed well. Very nice shot overall. |

I think this photo should be in an art show or gallery! I don't know if you were thinking about it at the time, but the light painting on the grass brings it together with the movement of the clouds and and color of the sunset. The blues and greens in the middle are wonderful complimentary colors to the yellow highlighted grass and sunset. The first highlight on the grass leads the viewer's eye to the pathway and into the picture. You always seem to be in the right place at the right time, but creating a beautiful photo and making it look easy shows your great technique. |

I love photographing right in my yard, too. But like you said, what a mixed blessing it can be! I do like Larry's crop and it would be possible to clone out some of the neighbor's car window. I really like your post processing and the colors and details in the feathers. That's one of my favorite things about bird photography. It's great that you have such a good opportunity so close at hand where you can be ready and take time to work the situation. |

I wasn't familiar with pixel shift technology and find the idea very interesting. Looks like you used it for maximum advantage. I do like the butte on the right, except for those pesky photographers. ;-) But the story is in the clouds and you were so fortunate to be there right at that time! Great job! |

Michael, Seems like I always go looking for one thing and come back with photos of other things as well. I love the little surprises that come along! There is some noise in the background that could be brought down. Thanks for your thoughts! |

I took a look at Steve Perry's video on auto ISO. I have tried it in the past but find it over exposes so I need to work with my camera to see if I can get it all figured out. Thanks for this tip. I agree that the lower left yellow leaves could be cropped out. Perhaps the green leaves in the front could be muted. |
