70 Apr 19 Comment Hi Frans,
I love the impact created by the strong geometry of the road. I enjoy how my eye travels up and down the road examining the details of the bright and colorful flags and people. I like how you put the ends of the road in the corners of the frame. Nice work! I greatly prefer the tightly cropped version.

70 Apr 19 Comment Hi Judy,
I find the repeating arches to be very well done. Focus is good, you hit the color and saturation just right. I feel the bricks have a great texture. I also like the overall color scheme with the rich green of the trees in the background.

I think the photo would be improved if there were a strong focal point framed by the furthest doorway.

70 Apr 19 Comment Hi Kathryn,
In my opinion this is a very nice Nightscape. The foreground is clearly visible and you did a good job of getting the Hoodoo in focus. I like the placement of the main subject just off center, allowing us to see that the Hoodoo is part of a larger rock ridge yet leaving room for the interesting sky to the right. I think the light pollution gives the clouds a nice warm color which complements the color of the rock well.

The stars are just a tiny bit smugged and I have personally found that the 500 rule is way off if you want truly pin point stars. For example with at 24mm focal length I can shot no longer that 10 or 11 seconds without detecting trailing in the stars. Also, you can even increase the number of star shots to 20. I think the more you stack the better the results. Speaking of stacking , you can also take multiple foreground shots and stack them with the median stack mode in PS to reduce noise in the foreground. Finally, you can move your light around in between foreground shots to fill-in extra dark areas.

Overall great image and I'm glad you presented it!

70 Apr 19 Comment Hi Glen,

I really like the layers of texture and tone in this image. The warm sun draws the eye right through the image from the clear focus and nice details in the sand, to the smooth water and reflection and over the ruff surface of the central rock and a great sky finishes off the story.

I do feel some tension regarding the near symmetry of the composition ( the sun is almost over the center of the rock island) I would crop some of the left side off too move away from the notion of complete symmetry.

70 Apr 19 Comment Hi Pierre,

Great light and focus throughout the photo--especially on the plaza in the lower left to the photo which I would consider to be the main subject. Focus at night can be difficult and you did a good job with this. Also, I can see that the ballon sign is very bright and I feel you did a nice job controlling this with your exposure brackets. I really like the warm white balance of the image.

The rest of the town has a lot of detail which I feel this competes with the main subject and I agree with cropping in.

70 Apr 19 Comment Hi Lamar,

For me this image tells a nice story of a field of beautiful white flowers. I like how the DOF drops off. The dark clean background works well yet still hold the suggestion of more flowers. I like the nice focus on the front flower which has lots of interesting detail.

I wish the main flower had a perfect clean margin with no overlap onto the other flower. Also. I agree with Judy that the bright stem is a bit distracting and could be darkened. Along the same lines, I would like the stem of the main flower to be brighter.

70 Apr 19 Comment Hi Frans,

I did look at Christian Hoibergs website and it looks interesting. I'll spend some time looking at the other posts on the site, thanks for the recommendation.

I think the fact that the trees are in partial silhouette gives the impression of sharpness. When I zoom in I can see some motion in the trees and it was a breezy morning. In retrospect I could have used a shorter shutter speed for the trees and blended that with the long exposure of the lake and clouds...Next time...

70 Apr 19 Reply Thanks Pierre,
Yes, it is the Crater Lake in Oregon. I didn't know there was one in Colorado so I'll have to check it out.
