Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
5 Aug 18 Reply I agree, Oliver, it makes perfect sense. We all need affirmation and it is always good to get positive comments on our work. However, there is a great difference between being pleased and grateful if people like our work and setting out deliberately to please others. People are so different in their views that any attempt to produce our art to please them is doomed to failure - unless someone happens to understand what we are trying to do.
I've been wondering what to put up for next month's image as I'm still trying to catch up after all the work I've been doing over the last few months on a photography project I'm doing with my daughter. However, as a result of this discussion I'll put up an image I submitted originally May 2011 and which most members of this group haven't seen. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone who hasn't seen it before thinks of it…

5 Aug 18 Comment This is a lovely image with great character and dynamism, Richard. I agree with Barbara that if you cloned out the figure between them, it would be even better Aug 26th
5 Aug 18 Comment This is a very appealing composite image, Nick. Done to your normal excellent standards. I love the lighting and the rays coming from the globe. I think this is one of your best images to date. Aug 26th
5 Aug 18 Comment I like both the original image and your filtered one using Poster edges, John. I think, though, that you should have left the second higher leaf on the left-hand side in the image as it adds more interest. My only criticism is that, because is doesn't have any other interest than the flower and the single leaf,it is a bit too simple. If it had some hint of context, it would have been a much stronger image. Aug 26th
5 Aug 18 Reply I wondered about the leaves on the bottom left and right hand sides but I concluded that they form a good triangle with the flower and that the image wasn't as good without them. As to the judges, if you think the image is good then it is, if they don't like it, it is their problem - I'm convinced that people should work for themselves and their vision and not worry about what others think. 5 Aug 18 Comment This is a very interesting image, Oliver, well exposed and wonderfully sharp. Taking the flower from the back and bringing out the detail in the sepals is a very creative idea and has made this into an intriguing image that looks slightly surreal.

I'm not at all sure that you should have removed the 'distractions' as I think that isolating the flower has removed the context which formed an interesting part of the composition

Excellent work…

5 Aug 18 Comment This is a great image, Barbara. Good composition and colour palette, with an aperture which allows the whole of the bird, the reflections and the water near it to be in sharp focus whilst having a slightly blurred background. I wouldn't change a thing. Aug 24th
