Hi Richard, lovely image! I liked the contrast balance and the PP to remove the grill in the bg. We struggle to get even 1 Nightjar in an open area like this. I envy your luck to get 3 of them in one frame :) Could not add anything much to the points already discussed in the forum.
Congrats to you for having this family pic in your repository. |

Superb image and narration as always Larry. One thing I have learned about the Crocs behaviour is that unlike Hippos, Crocs very rarely attacks the boats. But I do get you are not in the boat but kayak... ;)
I wonder how you still stayed there after seeing the croc sliding into the water :)
I am amazed by your adventures. Your image & narration itself is sufficient to give us goose bumps and needless to be there to experience.
I did notice that your image (as an expert) also has that water color/painting effect when zoomed in (mainly due to heavy sharpening as I have noticed in my images or is it due to high ISO? It should not be in this case as you have used ISO 500 which is easily manageable in D7200).
I agree with you regarding viewers comments about grass blades (judges especially, with due respect). Wish we could share a video clipping of what we go through to get that kind of an image irrespective of what is there in the frame. Then, probably the viewers might appreciate the image more as it is presented. :) |

OMG! I should give you for your daring shot Jason. Knowing it is such an impatient and ferocious animal, I would have chickened out in that situation. :-)
Worthy image to go into the magazine for sure.
Few points I would like to share for discussion:
1) I think your original image creates more interest in the viewer for having included the sky in the bg. However, going by your comment, the sky could be managed by using a Graduated Filter in PS LR to bring down the exposure and show the contrasting blues of the sky
2) I see you have broken the rule of third a bit to show the mock charge. While it is good to break the rule at times, IMO, I still feel it could still be a compelling image if you had to crop the right side a bit more. Happy to know what you and Larry think (since Larry also has commented on positioning it correct as it is)
3) Since there is already a point mentioned of highlights on the left part of the image, I was also thinking if it will be good to lower the shadows on the other side to show the Hippo's body clearly
Happy to know your views to learn through this discussion |

Beautiful directional image Todd. I really like the overall image as it gives a feeling that we are flowing or traveling with the river into the woods somewhere there...
I was drawn towards that bright mountain briefly and continued into the woods. However, I did observe my concentration was there as Larry explained. May be a little more contrast or burning the huge rock would improve slightly...
One of the clean images for a hall way to use it as a direction into the something. |

Such a beautiful close-up shot of this wonderful beast Michael. It is a bit scary of being so close too... especially when we are looking at it through the lens, zoomed in to give a feel that it is right in front of you :)
I loved the environment feel by keeping those blurry snow flakes. Very nice image.
IMO, the image can hold a bit more contrast |

Certainly Richard. If I move the subjects to the right, I have to crop the top right a bit and zoom in. This might cause an issue with sharpness I felt but worth a try :) |

Sure Jason. I preferred the original straight angle but went by couple of seniors feedback. Nevertheless, I personally like the straight line too. Interestingly, this version has got me an award though... |

Hi Larry, the image was rotated intentionally based on couple of feedbacks locally. You are right there was not such steep downhill in the BG.
