I raised my children in Eastern Washington and at one time I lived in Spokane. Beautiful city. great time of year to be there. Paul should be in the air. Night should be getting crisp. Enjoy. If you have any questions on the editing process, please email me privately and I would be delighted to help you. Enjoy the conference. |

Herb, my eye was initially excited to view this image, but it really doesn't hold my attention in a good way. Applaud your experimentation in Topaz Studio 2. Very recently downloaded the newest version myself. I just find the image a bit akin to being on a big ship on a slowly rolling ocean. It makes my head sway back and forth. To me, I also find that the bubbles fail to serve a valid purpose. That said, I still find this image to have great potential for the right Topaz adjustments. In my own work, I find that a little Topaz often goes a long way. Hope you try more effects, maybe 'Topaz Impressions' to create a stunning, yet nearly realistic, oil painting effect. How about AI Remix? Would really hope you share additional edits of this lovely pier at sunset. Thanks for sharing. |

Wow! You managed to unite the butterfly and foliage in perfect harmony. Great eye. So enjoy this image for its beauty, colors and intimacy between flower and creature. I am telling myself a wonderful story of their relationship. My gardens are planted for butterflies, and early morning is the stillest time for me to photograph them...just before the sun really completely warms their wings. Agree about benefit of tripod at this time of day.
My edit follows cropping down to meet rule of thirds, and using PS Content-Aware process on left side to add more space to fly forward. in PS, I added a bit more contrast, increased hue using Hue/Saturation adjustment, and increasing Vibrance. I used Burn tool at 25% opacity to darken head, eye, and wing edges. Used Eyedropper to create blue brush set at 20% to darken lightness on left side. Used tiny Burn brush to add highlighted to wing tips and inner wing structure. Used dark purple to add .02 pixel border. Thanks for a wonderful image. |

Rich, always tough to capture raptors in flight. Good effort. Agree about need to crop, top and left sides only. Leave plenty of room on right for forward flight. My personal preference to see the power and grace of wings in the up position. And not sure if eye is tack sharp. Again, a challenge with a moving bird at a distance, but it's the first thing I notice in any animal image. Also, would like more of a story. Thanks for sharing. |

I meant to add that the main purpose of my editing was to enhance the bike as the main and stand-out subject of the scene. :-) |

I am so attracted to this image as a gardener, photographer, and lover of old-world things. I can make an interesting story as I take in the scene. Well composed and skillfully balanced. I like the softness of the garden elements against the rough stones, shiny green glass, and rusty metal of the bike. Lots of interesting textures and shapes for the eye to explore. Really enjoy the variety of complementing colors. Just for curiosity, I cropped it tighter for simplicity, darkened the lighter elements above the window, and added a bit of vignetting. Both versions appeal to me. Thanks for sharing. |

Mark, as a transplanted Floridian, it is hard to embrace sunsets with palms. :-) I do like the composition with the palm fronds reaching into the setting sun. I agree with Donna about need for a border to contain image within bounds. To my eye, it's a bit fuzzy, which may be caused by low res for posting, or perhaps camera shake on a moving boat. ISO and shutter speed look good for eliminating movement. Would like to see more of a story as you often tell in your travel images. |

Thanks, Diana. I agree that the patterns and textures helped with this image. And BW was really the only choice. Thanks for your encouragement. |

Donna, great suggestions. My challenge here were all the distractions around the main subjects, which necessitated tighter cropping than I would have preferred. Hence, the minimalist approach. I do agree that it doesn't tell much of a story. A great bird on one of the piers would have helped immensely. :-) |
