Janet,
Nice and sharp. Good choices for the background. Colors looks good. I bet it was a lot of fun taking those shots. |

Tom I like you brightened up the people in the covered wagon. That said, I find using a global brightening caused the rest of the picture to get washed out, lose detail, and overall brighten it too much. The background now competes with your subject. By the way you can still crop out on the left as some of the horse is still there. Look at the Brillance of the horses pulling the wagon in the original and you will see that was lost in the processed version. You did a good job on the top of the covered wagon. |

Angela, I sense deliberate choices here. To go white on white with the vase is daring yet deliberate. How does that work for me? I am not sure yet. I find it kind of distracting, but perhaps a slight toning down of the vase causing it to blend in even more would probably be more compelling to me. It is a bit bright, and that is what is detracting. So, you ask if you darken it and it blends in more, how would that be better. I will tell you. You see, I sense this as a mood shot. The vase is supporting, but not the subject. The leaves are the subject. And the leaves to me feel a bit tired, worn down (even some fell off), BUT hopeful. I think this is a brilliant mood shot. I really like it and would love it if the vase was even more obscure, sensing its presence but insignificance. I too like the lack of detail in the leaves on the left, going into more and more detail and life as you move to the right, and that is the sense of hope I feel in this basically "mundane" - no offense intended - shot, and yet it is striking for the juxtaposition of the earthly tiredness to the heavenly and spiritual renewal that I sense, and the hope and vision of life's constant changes, and even though not pictured here, I get a strong sense of the glory to follow. Please let me know what you think of my vision in your photograph. |

Rose, these shots are not as easy as they look. Good for you to see this. I would have liked you to move to the left and doing that you would not have the car in the background, the bottom right of her face not cut into by the print and would see the artist's rendering of her picture in progress. That the artist's back would be showing without her face would not bother me, as it would add to the story, the drawing and the person being drawn. I do like having the other drawings in the pic, and would keep that moving left, as it adds context and supports the story. |

Kurt, I like what you are doing. I will give you my thoughts how I look at photos I take like this. To me this is a documentary shot. It is not art but a pic of someone else's art. This being the case, I personally struggle how to crop and what to leave in, more or less context. Here the context is distracting to me, and I ask myself what is it that I want to show. The subject are the horses. Thus, I would suggest a tighter crop, bringing out the details of the horses. I am willing to bet you will get a much more compelling shot for us viewers. |
